Rehairing Method Poll
« on: October 28, 2012, 04:13:25 AM »
So I use the needle (threading) method, but I was just wondering how many customisers actually use it. So having said all that, would you mind sharing with me what method you use?

I use both :)

I made my own rehairing tool with a cork and a needle and it works just fine. However, when the hair is too short to fold double (harvested mane) or when it need to be extremely secure, I still use the trusty threading method.

I used the needle method for a loooong time. Then I decided to give this rehairing tool a try and I LOVE IT! It's much faster!
But it also has flaws. More paint chipping and split plugrows. Also panic-attacs when the next to last needle breaks. ^^

I started with the tool, and I don't think I could do it any other way if I tried. It's so fast!

I use a reroot tool, made it myself years ago, just need to change the needle now and then if it splits apart XD I made only 1 or 2 customs with needle method and got tired of it, too slow for me :)

I'm pretty sure I'm going to go through life using only the thread and needle method.  It's wreaking havoc on my right pinky, but plug tying and rerooting this way is grossly therapeutic to me.  Besides that, I'll usually finish a few ponies paint-work, then spend a couple hours one day tying plugs in front of the TV, then the next day spending a couple hours rerooting in front of the TV.  It's really the only times that I watch television, so it's kind of become something I look forward to.

I really like how secure the knots make it and, for whatever reason, I like seeing the neat appearance of them all lying next to each other inside the head.  Again - I have no reason why that's so important to me, as you should never see the inside of a custom's head, but I just like how neat and tidy it looks, lol.

Hum, I don't actually know how to answer this poll. I use a thin piece of wire that I fold in half, poke through the pony's head from the top through to the neck hole, and then I pull open the wire to make a loop. I put a hair plug I have knotted into the loop, close the loop and pull it through the head. I assume this is kind of like the needle and thread method? Not sure.

yeah that sounds like needle and thread method, only minus thread. =P and as for rehairing tools and where to get them, i got mine from Maniah on the forums. i love it and have yet to break a needle =] took me a few tries to get the feel for it and how to avoid unnecessary paint chipping but i dont know if ill ever go to the needle method now. maybe some day if im bored. tool is just so fast and easy tho. :silly:

Forever a user of needle/thread or floss. I never intend to switch....I actually have a rehairing tool which I used to poke at some deep pindot on a pony the other day.
