BJD sizes and relative ages.
« on: October 14, 2012, 11:07:51 AM »
I have two SD sized dolls (the female is 60cm and the male is currently 65cm, but may get a 69cm body >.>)

I was thinking about getting a Littlefee to be their daughter, but the more I look at it, the more she just looks like a toddler to me. A young toddler. (though I could just be falling out of love with the sculpt)

Now I have to be honest. I am not too terribly fond of small children.

If I were to get an MSD sized doll to be thier child, about what age would he/she appear to be?

I've seen child-like/toddler dolls being portrayed as 5,000 year old demons and in "adult" situations ( I strongly dislike these type of photos and avoid them at all costs ) or you get a very mature adult like physically doll being photographed as younger/child-like characters.

If you are just asking for size references, then I would say a 60-ish cm couple with a 25cm child would say to me a young toddler/almost infantile proportions. Dollmore Narsha which is 30-35-ish cm tall would be an almost better fix portion wise for a young child, not toddler or infant.

45-ish cm dolls would almost be preteen/teenaged without appearing to be too mature.

It really depends on the sculpt and not the size though in some cases. Minifee are MSD but have very mature/ young adult bodies so they would sort of look awkward next to SD's being mature adults also.

childlike MSDs better fit the 6-7 age range.

Slim mini's like minifees look like preteens but are too short to pull it off.

You can get shorter SDs like junior delfs, to be teens and young adults.

YOSDs make good toddlers to SDs

PKF/Lati yellow make good toddlers to slim minis/msds

Lati green make great preteen siblings to slim minis who are 16-mid 20s

I think I am going to go with a childlike MSD as I wanted an older young child and I found a sculpt I really like with a slender young body ^w^
