Where do you get your TLC needed ponies?
« on: October 09, 2012, 07:07:05 PM »
I'm kind of wanting a restoration project. Buying brand new G4's right out of the package has kind of gotten old for me.. and though I love them.. I really feel like I don't appreciate them as much. Most of my ponies of other generations (G2-3) came in little lots off ebay and needed much care. I really love them because I felt like I gave them a second chance.. I can honestly say I've really overpaid for all of them. I was naive, and just getting into ponies back then.

So where do you get your ponies that need TLC? I'm talking the ones with frizzy air, dirt on their bodies, minor hair cuts.. What most people would 'bait' because they prefer mint/near mint ponies.

I have a thing for these ponies.. I feel like I'm saving them lol. It just makes me feel good to add them to my heard. Any ideas where to score some? Preferably a big lot.. For some reason, even ponies that aren't in very good condition are priced the same as ones that are in perfect condition on ebay..

Its not very original, but I get them off ebay. I just got a lot of 20 G1s with 1 G2 thrown in for $5. It even had the Baby buggy in it which was in much better condition than expected. So good deals are possible on ebay.

Ebay is pretty good if you can find a lot that looks really rough. Sometimes people won't fight you over them. I also tend to enjoy stalking threads here on the Arena and finding people with baits that I can buy in bulk. Sorry I know that's not an original answer.

I have gotten 90% of my collection from thrift stores and flea markets. In Denver, there is a GIANT flea market called Mile High Flea Market that is basically like hundreds of garage sales at once, and I get a ton of ponies there for an average of $1 each.

I am with you, I love cleaning them and styling their hair. Even if I know I am going to put them up for sale/trade, I always fix them up first.

I do a lot of restoring... Mostly find mine in lots/thrifts and such but also my signature helps XD I get lots of messages from people with ponies in not so good condition that don't want them to be bait :)

Hunting in flea markets, thrift stores, keeping an eye on Craigslist and Kijiji...  Most ponies I find from the secondhand market are in desperate need of Pony Salon.

Karrie, where are you located?  I've got some G1, G2, and G3s that are anywhere from bait to fair.  Some display well but have a major ink mark or a gouged hoof (I have a few G3s where someone dug out  the magnets... so sad).  I have been meaning to bump my bait thread for a while since I have new ponies to add.

I tend to encounter them most in lots on ebay - never really had much luck locally with ponies.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
