Ask the Experts: G1 Applejack with Orange Apples???

You all are more experts than me when it comes to 'different' ponies.  I have a G1 Applejack from Hong Kong with orange apples and more teal coloured leaves and eye colour.  The colouration is even on both sides.  I've never seen her with anything but red apples though I've seen baby AJ has the orange apples.  I think this is this a factory defect, what do you think?  Some people have thought she's just faded but with such even colouring...  She's up for sale but I'm not sure what to ask for her or if anyone would be interested in her as something other than a regular old AJ.

I have her too. it never actually made me wonder yet, maybe because I got her together with baby AJ, who has matching orange (although darker) apples. but now that you mentioned I looked up some pics and sometimes the apples are red - so now I'm curious too

My regular AJ and Baby AJ both have red apples, but my collectors pose has orange..

Yup, me too. My applejacks are somewhere in between red and orange ^^

I have an AJ Army and a few of them have these "light" Apples as well. I also guess they're just faded - but I like them.

And when we're honest - look at real Apples - all have different colors...so AJ is still cute with faded cutie marks.

They are faded I was sunfading one that had nice apples...well I did not cover them up :x so they went orange. Drats!

Thanks so much everyone for your help!  It's good to know there are other Applejacks like that out there. I wouldn't have thought the red would fade but just goes to show one can always learn something new.  Mystery solved!    I still think she's special, but now, just in a different way.  I like the variety.

Yes!!!   Actually if you follow Hasbros Transformers they do that all the time!   Bumblebee goes to "Stealth Bumblebee".

Yup, faded. It's the red pigment in the paints that fade which is why purple turns into blue, pink turns to white, red turns to yellow (through orange). It can happen very evenly, I can attest. I know for certain my childhood Applejack had red apples when I first got him, and over these last couple of decades his apples have slowly gone a very even orange on both sides.

Yes, its not a variant just pigment changes...its probably more understandable as pigment "leeching" - so not being faded by the sun or circumstances but rather the the red pigment used in ponies is the least stable so it leeches from the paint into the surrounding plastic and thereby removing the "red" from any paint.

She would unfortunately for this reason be worth a little less than a normal AJ as she does have a fading issues.
