Different versions of G1 Spike?

I really need to take another picture on a white backround - the one I believe came with the Lavender DC is pink - I mean he's not purple-pink but he's pink... He has the round spots on his eyes - never noticed that before my other spikes - I have like 4 or 5 all have the cresent moon eyes...

I think you are both right we need someone who has it MIB - if they have the circular eyes then perhaps the ones we think are Lavender DC are in fact just different batches of Pink DC? And all Lavender DC have the circle eyes.

My life is no longer complete, I don't have all the dragons after all! And this is going to bother me a lot if we don't figure out a way to tell the dragons apart. 
Dragons are serious business.

Lol...hey you could have the dragons or we could pretty much all be in a rush to track down a new dragon for our collections! Its a tough one right now without confirmation of some kind.

I'll try hunting (again) for my childhood lavender castle Spike next time at my parents'.  I've tried looking a few times before because I think I kept it even though we donated the rest of my ponies, but I'm not sure.

Was that the one Baby Honey was selling? I know there are a couple out there but literally very very few of them...hopefully someone with one of them has the time to be able to help

I did save an auction picture from that in order to find out about the combs and ribbons, but the only picture of Spike is side on and you can see his colour obviously not his eyes.

Ok so I'm still confused about the different colorways this little guy is available in.  I just received the Spike on the left of these photos, but he's a completely different color than the Spike I bought before:

So is lefty Spike supposedly the lavender castle one?  I suppose the other Spike could be faded, but the paint is a much darker color, more of a forest green while lefty Spike is bright green.

Daiyuflower, I agree. I always thought it had to do with the color of the spikes along the back. See my photo from above.

The recent Lavender DC which was on ebay was apparently a childhood collection rather than a collector - the Spike in that set had the dots for eyes and not the crescent shape. I am starting to come back around to that being the only way to potentially tell them apart.

I don't think he's faded. I have an old blurry photo from 80's were Majesty and Spike are posing in front of a dream castle, and the Spike in that pic is that dark. I don't have that specific Spike myself, it belonged to a friend, but he clearly is dark. I do have 3 different Spikes: dark one that came with a pink dream castle upgrade I got from ebay, the MO cartoon eye Spike (dark) and a light one I got from ebay, he was supposed to be from the lavender castle. I need to check their eyes..

I checked the one I have which I had thought was from the LDC but he has crescent eyes so I am guessing its not the case after all
