Rehairing help
« on: September 18, 2012, 09:12:02 PM »
I started rehairing my custom pony today. I'm doing the floss method (I think thats what it is called). So far it's going well. My only concern is that some of the strands have some kinks in them, probably from when they are pulled through the plug hole. Once I'm done rehairing her I plan on shampooing, conditioning, and styling her hair, but how do I get the kinks out first? Does boiling help?

Yes, you can use either a hair straightener or a boiling bath to get those kinks out :)

Awsome, thanks!
One more question if someone can answer. I'm already planning my next custom pony, and she will have a mohawk. What is the best type of hair to use for that hairstyle? I'm thinking it needs to be a bit more stiff.

Hey Cassie!  I did a long mohawk on one of my Swatch ponies, and I just used the existing pony hair and sculpted/styled it using hair gel.  You could also try the cheap dollar store wig hair (from Dollar Tree) as it naturally wants to stand up.  Good luck! :)

If you're using regular nylon hair from dollyhair the kinks come out with a regular wash :)  Just make sure that the position it dries in is the way you want it to lay.  i.e. if you braid it, it will be wavy when it's dry.  Boiling will do the trick too, but if you want regular straight hair just washing might be an easier way to do it :)
