a butterfly licking my palm
pic taken on a tram in Helsinki, Finland, sometime during summer, 2009. the poor thing got in the train but couldn't get out, stunned by the huge (not openable) windows, not noticing the doors. I held my hands ot until it finally decided to crawl on my palm, and we travelled some stops until we got off and off it flew I was surprised how calm it was and how it didn't want to fly away during those few stops. maybe it was my palm being salty?

a Meloe violaceus, location same as above. I love these, they are so big, and they have a lovely shade of blue in their black shell.

Today I saw the biggest caterpillar I've ever seen in Sweden before. I think it was 8-9 cm long and it was really fat. When I poked at it it with a pinecone it tried to spit something at me.

Feel free post bugs that you have photographed. I'll post some more of my bug pics later. I actually think most bugs are creepy, but still they're interesting and fun to watch and photograph.

Aw, it's so cute! And big. I love all animals, and that includes insects/arachnids/etc that a lot of people seem to hate. I've seen a few impressive bugs every once in while, but I never end up taking pictures. A few years ago, I saw an Eyed Hawk Moth on a tree near our driveway and I caught it in a beta container. I released it a few days later, but it was pretty large.

EDIT: About 3, maybe 4 years ago, I had found a spider (I don't remember what kind), in our backyard. I decited to take care of her. I had fed her daily by giving her crane flies to eat, and kept her in a container with some dirt, leaves, and sticks so se felt more at home, and kept the container outside. About 2 weeks after I got her, I had taken her out to let her crawl on my arm and I accentally dropped her. I freaked out. Luckily, I fund her about 5 minutes later. I kept her for another month and one night, there was a really bad storm here in Washington. Her container got too much water in it and she had drown. It was so sad. She was like a pet to me.

your cute little green caterpillar reminds me of a cute little green guy I had for a couple of days in the first week of this September. we bought a lettuce on a Saturday, and next Tuesday I found a caterpillar in it. I did see small chew marks on the leaves, but I didn't suspect someone's inside, and I didn't get to that point where I could actually see it earlier. the little guy gave me a big surprise when it started to move - it was in the fridge for almost 4 days just at us, and for who knows how long in the supermarket :O I decided to give it another chance, and I took it out and put it in a big bottle with some leaves. I even named him Jocó (pronounced something like "yotsow", it's a male nickname - I don't know if it was a male, but somehow this name came to mind ). I only had it for 3 days, but it has grown noticably! ^^ on Friday I went to visit a friend of mine who lives in a nice and green area far from the main city where I live, and, as I thought it will have a better life there than in a bottle I took the little critter with me. boy, it was aggressive! I tried to take it out, and ouchies, it bit! I have never encountered such small caterpillars who tried to bite but in the end we could set it free in my friend's garden. I hope it managed to survive and became a lovely butterfly ^^

I love bugs and actually raised some butterflies, moths, and spiders, but I'm afraid I don't have any pictures on hand. 

I really wish I had my camera the other night. My aunts truck had HUNDREDS of little black caterpillars all over it. Her daughter does yard work, so she must have cut down something that had eggs on it and they hatched in her truck bed. It looked like a horror movie.

I am so jealous right now! Supposedly there's an outbreak of them here in Miami. I wish I could find out where exactly and go rescue a few. Although the health risks kinda freak me.
