MIP Opening Dilemma

Hey again!

I'm having a dilemma about opening two packs of MIP G1 cards 

One is the birthday set pictured below, the other is a Christmas set not pictured.

My dilemma is that I am adverse to opening MIP G1 items, but on the other hand I'm not getting much enjoyment out of not being able to see any of them  so I am unsure what to do. What do you guys think?

Do you think their overall value will be decreased by opening them?

I was thinking that if I do open them I could sell off the spares as the artwork is beautiful and I'm sure other collectors would love the chance to own them. But I don't really want to open them if it will decrease their overall value.

Well, anytime you open a MIP item, it does decrease thier value..how sigificantly? well..it depends on your buyer.  I am no good at giving prices for merchandise, but maybe someone who knows more can pop in?

Any idea who the pony is underneath the barcode?

I agree that opening MIP items does generally decrease the value, I was just wondering about this item in particular as I've seen some of the cards individually sell for half of what I paid for the whole set MIP. I generally would never open a MIP item but these have me really stumped :S

Ah thank you! If it was Bowtie,  I might have tried to convince you to open them!

I would have a hard time with that decision too. I think ultimately I would probably open them,  Frame one of each card for my pony room, and then sell the rest. I like to spread the pony love :3

Will you be taking pictures of the Christmas Cards? I'd really like to see those :3

I think I'm leaning towards opening them too :3 they're too pretty to not to be looked at!

When I dig them out of storage I will upload pics of the Christmas cards

I am generally a loose collector, and I would carefully open the top so you could slide the items in and out of the original packaging

it's no fun having something like that MIP, I'd much rather turn the pages!

I would open them. If it was a pony in a box or still on the card I would say no. That is awsome that you shared this with us and I would love to see the christmas ones sometime

I would probably open them as well. Merch doesnt have massive massive value, so while yes opening them will decrease value its not by such a significant amount you would need to be worried as the initial value is low enough.

As OL1 says, be careful with the packaging and then you can at least pop them back in again at some point should you wish.

Nice find! Since the cards will be mint when they come out, I'd say they will definitely still have value!

Thanks for the advice everyone I think I am going to open them and sell the spares (probably at Ponycon if anyone is interested ).

I'd open them and frame them! The art looks lovely; can't wait to see the Christmas cards!

How odd! I have actually opened a set of those exact same cards! Well, a friend and I did. We did it because we wanted to split the set. I've not regretted doing so, and it's been a good five years since we did it. The cards aren't hugely expensive anyway, but it's nice to have a complete set

I probably wouldn't open it if it were mine, only because I'm so obsessed with g1 stuff staying in its package but on this occasion I would say open it if you really want to

Aren't there some products who's value increases when you open them? No, wait, I think it isn't the actual value. Maybe it's the desirability? I have no idea where I heard this, probably Pawn Stars or something, but with something that normally has visual appeal, but is hidden in packaging, I think opening them is actually for the better value-wise. Not sure, though. I'd open them, personally.
