FS Luna/ celestia question
« on: September 02, 2012, 07:14:48 PM »
So, FS Luna has a metallic type pearl plastic for her body while Celestia just has a plain old pink plastic. I am wondering if this was a really last minute change to her. The flyer I got with Luna shows a white Celestia with a metallic type sheen to her just like Luna.

This is the non target exclusive Luna and Celestia I'm talking about.

Anyone with a prototype of the white Celestia know if she has a pearl metallic type sheen to her as well or is she just a plain white plastic?

She is plain white. I have to wonder if they kind of jazzed her up by adding a coating just for the picture. A lot of ponies seem to be very shiny in the pictures on the backs of the boxes that are not shiny in the box.

Sometimes the pictures are of prototypes, not the actual pony you'll get. If you look at G1 pamphlets they did it all the time, there's actually one pamphlet where twinkle eye Whizzer is in a completely different pose! ( it was masquerade or galaxy pose I think)

As Party says - prototype ponies and ponies photographed for promo shots are seldom the actual ponies released. In fact often they are not even manufactured plastic ponies - promo shots are normally taken prior to a product being manufactured - they could be made of foam or wood or plastic or all other manner of materials and then have a painted finish. Often this is because where the product is being manufactured and where the product promotional material and packaging is being designed are on opposite sides of the globe.

Rhini posted a picture of a prototype castle taken at the pony fair which is a great example of how the process works.

Therefore the pearly white Celestia in the images probably only exists in her one incarnation for the image. The FS white Celestia I had was also just a matt white plastic.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

I would love to see her with the pearl sheen, maybe one day Hasbro will release her that way.

I hope! It does seem that all of those taobao finds are popping up in the market/future market.
