I hear it's pretty difficult to get an overall even color.  I know people have tried and done it though.

It's not hard, bit it is labor intensive. You need to sand the entire doll so you  have a very even surface for the color to adhere to. That way you won't get streaks. Some people have coated the parts with MSC instead of sanding before dying and it helps make the color come out even, too, but sanding is really the best way to go. Remember to use a respirator! Resin dust is toxic! But Rit dye is what most people use. I imagine, aside from the prep work, it's the same as dying a pony.

Hmm... I'd hate to try it and then have it be a disaster. If I screw up a pony its a few bucks, if I screw up a doll it's a few hundred. It's a Soom taur lower body I'm thinking about, too.

Loving these centaurs! I almost wish I had jumped on the wagon and gotten one (the Tiny Delf ones are so cute!)

I made a couple wigs for my girls for fun~ Here's one of them!

NoDivision, even if the dye turns out bad, it's removable. A soak in Winsor & Newton brush cleaner will draw out most of the dye, and you might have to lightly sand some bits. Very little can ruin a BJD. I've seen one doll that was burned in a house fire. He was restored by his owner. He's a little discolored but looks great none the less. One reason I love these dolls is you can experiment with them and if it doesn't work out they can be restored back to almost perfect original condition!

Thanks everyone, I'm very excited  ^.^ Hmmm I hadn't ever though to dye resin! Maybe I'll give it a try since his paint job is chipping pretty badly.

How do I remove most of the paint?

Smokey is just adorable, Rhini! I thought the donkeytaur body was grey resin, but it looks like it was just painted? Do you think you'll dye it to avoid chipping around the joints? Smokey's wide innocent eyes & pouty lips are too cute!

Sooms original Smokey onocentaur body is defenitely grey resin, not painted.

Thank you so much to whoever posted the link to CamelliaDynasty's Thyme (Suppi, maybe? I know I saw it somewhere in the Dollhouse)!

I've just placed an order for one in white (http://www.camelliadynasty.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=8&products_id=105) as a pet for my tinies, which should arrive in January :D

It was harder than I thought to pick between black or white - the Black Stallion, or the Silver Brumby? :silly:

Rhini, To remove body painting use 91% rubbing alcohol, or Winsor & Newton brush cleaner (the alcohol will be much cheaper!). Let the parts soak for a few minutes then scrub with a magic eraser. You might need a toothbrush to get into all the little nooks & crannies. Assuming the paint and sealant are acrylic based it should come off pretty easily. Once it's clean give it one last wash with a little Dawn or other dish soap and let it dry for a couple of days before you seal it or paint it again. Good luck! Smokey is very cute!

Oh man I love the Silver Brumby! (Or what I saw of the cartoon anyways!)

I'm getting nervous about which one my girlfriend picked up for me. :S A part of me really, really wants the white one but the black one is cute too. But a part of me really hopes its the white one.

Wow it does sound pretty simple! Can't wait to see Smokey all cleaned up Rhini :)

I'm guessing all the parts need to be unstrung first before the soaking?

*edit* just sharing a group picture of my girls before it all explodes into chaos as more dollies arrive
