Hmmm...well we are identifying different things I guess :P

At this point it certain appears to be a "part" of something else. As as you say the "something else" must not have been worth keeping. I am angling away from cake decoration now though...just havent decided what to settle on.

So, I guess they clip over the side of your glass and then 'hold' your straw for you? They're cute! :D I wonder why more haven't turned up.

Yup thats exactly what they did - the ponies tummy was over the rim of the glass and the straw through the attached. The one I have a really terrible picture of looks flat on one side with the straw golder coming out of its side...this one is a much better design :)

Depends on where and how they were released I guess. They're so cute, so they were probably cheap-o party favour type things? I wonder who else they made.

Possibly - coming in packs of 6 or 8 or something. I have never seen them in original packaging so this is a wild guess but with the nature of the line it makes sense.

Oh, hey, cool! I've never seen anything like that before! I'm kind of impressed that after all these years, there's still MLP merchandise that isn't widely known and waiting to be discovered.

Ok, I have one of these things, too, and one of her rear hooves looks as though something was once there but was forcibly removed, which I now assume to have been the straw holder thingie. The other three hooves and legs are simply and cleanly hollow (no jagged edged hole like the kne rear hoof) The one pictured above has the holder thing attached to the front hooves, so does this mean that mine is either not a straw buddy ( pics are on the MLPTP, which I don't think I can "legally"  link to?) OR... maybe more info to add to the knowledge base, they designed them to be either-end attachable. :)
How exciting--have been thinking it was a "mere" cake topper!

The jaggy finish to one of the rear hoof holes is a production issue - most of them will have it and you see it on a lot of hard plastic moulded products - this will have been the foot in the mould which will have been connected during the production process and where the plastic entered the mould. All other elements of the plastic are smoothly moulded but you still have to have a section which is connected to the process and when this is "ripped" it tends to leave a jagged edge, usually of thinner plastic. So you do have the same item - the straw connector will have fitted in the smooth hole on one of the front hooves.
