Lucy The Belgian- a story for horse lovers.

Hi all!

How's everyone in ponyland doing today? I just wanted to share a story of a horse at our barn. Her name is Lucy, and she is a Belgian (that's a big, gold colored draft horse).

Lucy is ten years old, and she rides, drives, and is in the mounted patrol. (That makes her a police horse! Pretty awesome!) In April, Lucy stepped on a nasty piece of wire, which punctured her hoof and brought her up lame. Unfortunately for her- she hasnt been getting better. Her wound has been continuously getting worse- reabcessing over the late spring and summer. The infection has moved into coffin bone. It was to the point where her old owner couldn't afford to keep up with all the vet bills piling up, and gave her up. (It was that or put her down)

My friend Maria runs a horse business named Lazy Star Horse Company. She heard about Lucy's problem and decided to step in. She has taken Lucy to our barn, and we are all helping out to get this brave, gorgeous girl better. She's going to have surgery after labor day to go into her wound, clean up the infection and any foreign materials, and then she will have several months of rehab. We are really hoping that our combined efforts are going to help her pull through.

When she came to the barn, we could all tell, she was in a lot of pain, and really about ready to give up. Now that she has friends loving her again, it's really amazing the turn around in behavior! Shes more perky, and just so so sweet- she lets cats sit on her, kids love up on her. Just a real trooper.

I wanted to share this story to get the word out about her (we are having a fund raiser to help cover her expenses) but even the simplest well wishes and prayers are so meaningful too. Also to share her story with everyone- that even when things look bleakest for a creature who can't speak up for themselves, there are folks out there who are willing to step up and help out to do the right thing.

That is such a heart warming story! She is such a doll.

She is a very pretty girl!!!!

I bet she is in alot of pain. That is not a good thing and hope that she does get better. She knows that you all love her and care. I wish you all lots of luck on getting her back to 100%.  When a horse goes lame its never a good thing.
