Accessory sorting
« on: August 26, 2012, 06:29:43 PM »
I have so many G1 accessories I don't even know where to start.....I wanted to do a spreadsheet to record everything but I'm not sure the best way to do it *brain explode* should I go by set ( ie babies, playset) or individual items?

Those of you with accessory addicti..... :P ....I MEAN accessory fans will know what I mean.... I need to know what I have so I feel more organised. Plus I'm going to drown in the pile at any moment.

Thanks to SDS for my siggy and avi

Well, a spreadsheet like excel is definitely the best option, then: you can label each item by both the set AND what it is, and what year, anything you want. Then the whole spreadsheet can be selected and resorted by whatever category you want to focus on...I am terrible at articulating things.  :P
Good luck, though. This is the kind of job I love, but I imagine you have a ton of accessories, so looks like you've got a lot of work ahead of you!
I'll put something here some time

Lol...when you get organised gonna tell me how to do it :P

You know I love you - if you need access to the accessory section of my completely complete and still working on website let me know - its got lists of pretty much everything :)

When sorting I did it by listing in spreadsheet every single pony [by year and by set] and then listing accessories along side them individually. I did US ponies, then mail order, then UK/Euro ponies, then playset and then pony wear...then I realised it had taken me 5 years to do this and I am still not finished :P

Its not finished unfortunately :( You have to be brave to negotiate it cause its full of missing links - its like some kind of white elephant...one day it will be done :) But I can copy and paste any accessory lists on here that anyone needs.

You sound exactly like I was the other day.

I have a pony/accessories spreadsheet and I just had a look at the very first draft I made back in 2009. Crazy stuff! I would say that I could send you a blank copy but it doesn't really help with accessory sorting, just gives you space to fill in what you have.

Good luck XD

I have a checklist, and it's organized by playset/pony set.  I then have them in baggies labeled to which playset or pony they belong.

I just keep the accessories with said pony/playset on display - though right now everything is packed up - but it's still the same - the accessories were packed up right with the pony.

I've got my checklist in Sweet Tune's guide, and I keep the playset stuff together, the pony brushes are by year in ziplock bags, and a lot of my baby accessories are grouped by baby, since they came with more stuff (like, all the first babies have their own bags, etc).  The guide is a great checklist, but my actual organising could use some work.  I just need coffee and a time machine =)

Yes this is how I display as well...it takes up a lot of shelf room but they are always so cute - especially the babies with all their accessories!

Lol! Well the links would be fantastic Cat if you have time, thanks darling!

I'm just writing down what I have at the moment then I'm going to put them into a spreadsheet but I won't do the every single pony thing because I don't have *that many* accessories. I mainly want to know what I have and then I can write which pony/set it goes to.

I still don't have a clue how to set it out though *is useless*

Solved: on  accessory file she says it can be downloaded and then I can highlight the items I own, simple. :)

I wish I had the room on my shelves to display the ponies with their accessories. Right now I keep all my accessories in baggies labeled with the pony's name and then each pony set has its own bin in my accessory storage cabinets. I use my Collector's Inventory guides to check things off.  It is a very involved system, but it works for me.

Here's a picture of what I'm talking about. :)
