Want the ponies... but not the playsets!

I got the Pony Wedding DVD the other day and LOOOOVED the episodes! I just adore Shining Armor and Cadance I really want the set that comes with the castle, but I don't want the castle! And with SA and Cadance selling for about $30-$35 together on ebay without the castle, well, I might as well buy the $35 playset, keep the ponies, and give the castle to my friend's daughter.

I had the same problem with G3 playsets. I always wanted Honolu-loo, but didn't want the playset. I eventually got her at the flea market though (yay) And thankfully I got a Sweetie Swirl from an Arena member without having to buy the Carousel playset!

Anyone else run into this problem?

I am not really collecting G4 but when it came to G3 I wanted the playsets. I can totally understand why someone would not.  They take up a lot of room and are very hard to store.  Eventually I have noticed I get rid of playsets after a while.  The ones I keep are my G1.

I want Cadance and Shining Armor so much, but I can't justify the cost or the space for the wedding castle.  I have the little blind bag-sized ones, but I would love the brushables... wish you could get them another way!

I am in the same boat I want the ponies and not the castle but I am torn. I don't want to spend $40 on e-bay when I can get the set and donate the castle.

So I settled for the styling size for now

I wanted to get the FS as well, but not when I saw Shining Armor had a mohawk It's worse that SA troll hair I may just get them anyway though! Do you think the hair will lay down smooth if I wet it?

I'm just like that. I don't care much about about playsets, not even G1 playsets. But I have bought certain playsets just for one or two ponies. I seriously feel like I am wasting money when I do that. But it's a great marketing ploy. Kids will wanna buy the playset to get the one pony too.

I have the same problem - really want Cadence and SA (Twilight misses her brother) but cannot justify the cost and the castle that I don't particularly want or need.

That's me as well. I've never been a big playset collector, I just don't have the space for them. And for the price I can't justify buying a castle I'll never display just for the ponies. Boo.

I feel the same way. I may be going in on it with a friend. I get the ponies, she gets the castle for her daughter!

I bought the carousel for $30 NZD, took out Sweetie Swirl then put the carousel up for sale on our local auction site just before christmas, sold it for $21NZD. So techncially S.Swirl only set me back $9NZD which is the price of a standard pony here . so you could always sell it & recoup some money back.

I can understand where you're comming from. The only playsets I really care about are the G1's. With that beeing said I did want the SA and Cadence castle since I figured it would make for a nice display case

When the G3's were released I did buy the playsets to get the ponies and the playsets are now stored in their original boxes underneath the bed in the ponyroom

My suggestion is that you have patience and wait. The G3 playset ponies are beeing sold loose on Ebay these days at no higher cost than the other G3's. I'm pretty sure the G4 playset ponies will go the same way - giving it some time. Maybe not the international exclusive ones, but SA and Cadence anyway.

Give it a few months and they will start appearing on ebay without the playset. Kids grow out of toys so fast these days... which is sad but a plus for collectors!

I don't want the playsets either. Maybe if I had room for them, but I don't. I bought Shining Armor loose and will get Cadance from the Crystal princess set with Celestia and Luna.

I'm the same, and it's really rather expensive here! I'm hoping to pick them up loose at some point.
