Need advice - Reverse Gusty
« on: August 23, 2012, 04:52:19 PM »
Ok so I was moving the rest of my collection the other day and came across reverse gusty that I had purchased probably around 7 years ago.
I know the whole topic of reverse gusty is practically taboo because of a few indistinguishable customs that were sold and passed off as real.
I am wondering if there is any way to tell for sure if you have a genuine reverse gusty. The one I have was not in great condition. Body was creamy yellowish, not white
and her hair was super super super dry and frizzy... YIKES!. If anyone knows my collecting turn offs its really boils down to dry hair. Anyways I have since conditioned it and it still is dry but at least its better than it was. I have asked Sarahbee's help for photos of the inside of her CONFIRMED reverse gustys head. She sent me photos and they look somewhat similiar to the one I have. I have heard CKat did some chemist work with glue testing to determine if her gusty was real back in the day. Anyone have any other ways to evaluate authenticity? Sorry in advance for opening up a can of worms.

P.S. I will post some photos of my gal with inside of her head and all.

She's a beauty and I would LOVE to have a real one :) But like you mentioned I'm a bit weary since I know how good people are at re-hairing and customizing etc. :P

Gonna be interesting to get more facts on the matter so stalking this thread *grabs some pizza from relcelestia :pizza: *

I comissioned a custom of her, and if it were not for the signature under her hoof and the weave in her head, she is a dead ringer! :)

I love reverse Gusty, she is a beauty!

I...I didn't know she existed, and I'm in love. Regular Gusty is one of my childhood ponies, so I take her for granted. This is really neat. Are there very many reverse ponies?

Good luck with possibly confirming her. Either way though what a nice looking color change on her.

WOW Freefall has a great Idea.
She told me to count out the number of strands per plug hole. If they are consistant then they are probably factory done. If they are not then they are probably evidence of a rehair. I would have never thought to do that!

perhaps you could also measure how long the mane is? that would be another clue, i know it is really quite hard to get a pony's hair to "factory length."

How many confirmed Rev  Gusty's are there? I think I remember reading 3.  And can I ask, do we know who owns them? SarahBee is one, of course.
Nirvana grails:  Reverse Gusty (upgrade), Peru Windy and Moonstone (upgrade), Brazil TAF upgrades, Argie Powder w/ white hair (upgrade), French Windy and Moondancer (upgrades), Spain TAF's, TE's, and piggies.  These are my biggest wants, but I'm looking for tons more nirvanas, especially Greeks, Brazilians, and Peruvians.  Feel free to PM me for sales or trades.  But please note that I'm also fairly picky.

I can't imagine that Hasbro would be that consistent but you never know!

Do we know if Babydolls Reverse Gusty was confirmed?
I found pictures of hers here on a former post from the TP. Hers has no glue in the mane but looks like perfect factory weave.

I doubt mine is real after really looking at the weave. IT just looks different and slightly messier. Almost looks like the lock and loop technique.. you can see it clearly if
you push the plastic near the root toward the head hole.

IT doesn't have the same downward weave the the other two seem to have. So do we think this is a way of confirming? that would mean that the fake reverse gustys
do not have identical weave that the factory produced. Or do we know of anyone that has been able to perfectly duplicate this weave? Mine also looks to have a slightly longer mane.
