Question 'Bout the Blank G3 Pony
« on: August 23, 2012, 11:26:12 AM »
I understand how kids could easily decorate the pony itself with markers, glitter, and things like that, but how would they make the hair a different color? I mean, you could rehair or dye the pony, but I doubt kids would do that... (This may seem like a stupid question, so, sorry about that. I'm just really curious, and quite frankly, confused.)

I took a break from the Arena from a couple months due to school and other things in my life. But I'm back now!

You can use permanent markers (aka Sharpies) to color fake hair! :D

I did it for a bunch of Halloween wigs, it actually works very good! With a little patience you can turn a white wig into a Rainbow Dash wig. ;)

And Sharpies come in ALL sorts of colors of the rainbow. You can actually buy like 24-packs of Sharpies, each a different color. And my coworker has kids about the 9-11 year age, she bought that 24-pack for them to use for school projects (and let me borrow the pack for my Halloween wigs lol), so I can imagine kids could use them for ponies too.
Thank you Thimble for my amazingly cute avatar!

When I first got those for a contest in a shop over here, I didn't know about rehairing either (I didn't collect back then) and we coloured the hair with ink wash :) Worked well.

Yes and it can be easy to rub off as well - and dont get it too wet! But they keep their colour well enough just dont take them out in a downpour or leave them pressed up against a white pony.

And I agree sharpies [or felt tip pens in the UK :P] were what seemed to be the popular choice.

Since my pony is going to be kept white, is it ok? Like, will the colors bleed into my pony if her hair is touching her "skin"?

I don't think she was really aimed at kids.  She wasn't a store release.  I think it was something made mostly for collectors and people who make actual customs.

She was not sold in stores but she is sold on Hasbro site and I think at one time she was worded as a party favor.

You can also tint the hair with food coloring.

Yes.  Sharpies are the WORST customization tools you can use.   Sure, if you are giving the pony to a kid to decorate, it's probably not going to make a difference, but if you want to be serious about customising her.....learn how to do it properly. You will be sorely disappointed with the results of sharpie markers after awhile...it's just not a good thing to do.
