Not really into that kind of thing.
Quote from: kaoskat on August 21, 2012, 10:28:08 PMNot really into that kind of thing. It's definitely not for everyone. I am not a fan of the host trying to get these people to get rid of something they truly love (though it's understandable), but I love seeing people's collections. That's the big reason why it draws me in.
That's what I like and why I watch it, just to see what and how much people collect. I adore looking at collections and will spend too much time just looking through collection pictures on the internet.
is this on cable or "free to air"?what channel?
I only caught maybe 10 or 20 minutes of it tonight, and I have mixed feelings. The host person was quite respectful and understanding (unlike a lot of "you need to get rid of X" shows I've seen where the host is a HUGE jerk and doesn't understand attachment), but I did not like her feelings on what makes a collection "good". She kept urging the Barbie collector to sell so she could get "that one" piece (which the collector dreamed of and she was helping her achieve that dream, so I wasn't upset about that), but she said something about how collections aren't about having a ton of what you love but having one special centerpiece. Um no. Collections are about making YOU happy, not some random TV show host you'll never see again. :/And I guess this may be "correct", but she kept saying how they should sell their modern pieces because they're "not collectible" and are loosing value. It just rubbed me the wrong way as a collector. And the way they kept saying that the Barbie clothing this collector loved were "not collectible" because they weren't 100% complete and were more on the common side. Seriously? I don't care if that's "correct", in my opinion it's just plain rude to say it like that. I'm likely biased since I collect/want to collect a lot of modern kids toys and I don't care if they're worth nothing to everyone else and are "not collectible", because they're worth a damn lot to me. But still, that's just so rude.(I'm also like 70% sure I saw the GI Joe/Hot Wheels collector had one or more doubles of a. . .17k car? I don't know if the figure is right, that sounds insane lol, but it was worth a lot. I didn't even see her hint about selling a double, or just one of them since he had like six. I only saw her insist to keep all the vintage stuff and sell everything modern.)I was also kind of bothered by how they portrayed the GI Joe/Hot Wheels collector with the narration. It just seemed really rude and like somewhat condescending. How he was obviously VERY upset and the narration was like "extreme collectors sometimes get emotionally attached to their collections" and stuff like that. It really really really rubbed me the wrong way. I felt horrible for this man while the narration acted like it was this amazing foreign concept to be emotionally attached to objects and it only happens to ~extreme collectors~ that need to cut down. But like I said I didn't see much of it. I'd like to at least see another episode or two before I say for sure how I feel about it.Post Merge: August 21, 2012, 10:50:36 PMQuote from: Bow Tie on August 21, 2012, 10:43:07 PMQuote from: kaoskat on August 21, 2012, 10:28:08 PMNot really into that kind of thing. It's definitely not for everyone. That's the big reason why it draws me in.That's the entire point of the show. :/ Its called "Collection Intervention" because their collections are out of control. I don't like it either but its not like she ran into a stranger's house and demanded they sell their things, these people had to consent to this.
oh god... I hope my family doesn't find out about this show :/Everytime they come out with some new shows like this, my family reflects it back on me... god forbid it hits that close to home :/
Wait, this is on Syfy?...does the host at least dress as a collection abducting martian?
