Basic Photo Portfolio Must-have's
« on: August 19, 2012, 08:04:30 PM »
I am getting ready to start really playing with my dolls and camera. My question is, what kind of photos should I start with? I'm thinking a close-up and a black and white something, but what else do you think is a 'must have' in a doll model's portfolio?

Full-body shots are good, as are hairstyles that don't obstruct the face. What about a swimwear shoot?

What kind of full-body shoot? Something simple? Swimwear is good, should it be more catalogy, like she's selling the swimwear or more artsy like in Elle?

Either I would say :) Go with the flow, take loads of pics, changes of costumes/props/backdrops, and just see what happens :) One thing I have learnt in the past couple of months is you can never take too many photos, as they all look different on a computer screen.

oh this is a thread I must stalk now... I need to start working on shoots for my gal Ruby.

Where do you get ideas for shoots? and is an indoor or out door shoot better lighting wise?

Summer: Lighting wise, indoor for me, but many say outdoors. Personally, the suns glare is hard to work with x

I suggest you have a few full body shots, as well as photos that feature your models facial beauty. You should also use lots of different themes - this shows that your ghoul is versatile and thats what most clients are looking for. (AKA: the judges)

If you're in the shade, the glare isn't bad at all. :3

Yup if I'm shooting outside I'll hook up a sheet so there is a nice patch of shade to work in :)

Ooh, I should try that :D

I also love taking photos on cloudy days. Everything is under a shadow, so you don't have to limit yourself to taking photos under shadows.

Salli, I can't wait to see your portfolio! Do whatever feels right. Variety is best:

Beauty Shots
Full Body Shots
Outdoorsy Shots
Artsy Shots

Really, the possibilities are endless!

The sheet is a great idea. I live in Oregon where we usually have clouds so I am usually okay :) I am going to try some facial shots today.
