What size frame did you use? Is it a standard poster frame?

What size frame did you use? Is it a standard poster frame?

Well... the posters are 11X 17... so this frame... doubled up... should be 22X34... It's not really a "standard" size...

But you can buy "sides" of metal frames at Michaels... then a piece of glass... and "build your own"... I'm wondering if Gabumon did this...?

Basically you'd buy a package of 22" pieces... and then another of 34" pieces... and connect them together. ;)

You can also buy glass (MUCH cheaper) at Home Depot or Lowes... and MOST of those stores will cut it to size for you too. ;) You'd have to bay for a 24X 36 piece of glass... but they will trim it down to the size you need. :D

I miss my framing job at Michaels... sometimes... ;)

Personally... I intend to wait for Michaels to have another one of their "sales" on frames... when they offer an additional 25% off on Wall Frames. I will then snag myself some "float" frames... and put my posters in them. :D

Curious, ladybrooklyn, do they 11x17 frames pre-made to frame them by themselves or custom frames for those as well? I haven't had a chance to go to Michael's and look for myself yet....

Curious, ladybrooklyn, do they 11x17 frames pre-made to frame them by themselves or custom frames for those as well? I haven't had a chance to go to Michael's and look for myself yet....

11X17 isn't a "popular" standard size.... but they DO make 11X17 frames. You just won't see the "variety" that you see in 8X10... or 11X14 frames... ;)

The reason *I* want "float" frames... is because in a standard 11X17 frame... approximately 1/4" of your image will be covered up by the lip of the frame itself... Same thing would happen if you have it custom matted.

You HAVE to "lose" that portion of the picture, in able to keep it securely in the frame. If the "hole" of the frame was exactly 11X17... your poster would fall right thru... It's unfortunate... but that's how frames work.

Sorta makes me wish Walmart hadn't printed these posters "full bleed" if they had left 1/4" of white all the way around... these would have fit in 11X17 frames without any image loss. But hey! We're lucky to have them at all... right? ;)

Anywho! With a float frame... the image is sandwiched between two pieces of glass, and held in place that way. It then appears to "float" because there is a "matte" of clear glass between the image and the actual frame. :D

Here... lemme see if I can find a pic to illustrate....

Ah! Here we go... hope these help show what I mean... ;)

See how they appear to be "floating" between the glass... with the wall visible between the image, and the frame? :D That's what I'm gonna go for...

Welcome! I learned alot about the art of framing at Michaels. :D The only thing I wish... is that I had access to their U/V protectant glass! I want to replace ALL of the glass in ALL of my frames with that stuff... it's awesome!

Expensive... but awesome...

We found this frame at walmart for <$10!  It's "standard" in the sense they have a lot of them on hand ;)  It's  22" x 34" frame.  plastic "snap on" frame with thin plexiglass.

Should be easy to find.  It was labeled "Poster Frame".   Hope that helps!

Re: 11x17 frames; The way the art on these is positioned, you shouldn't end up losing anything on the Equestria map(well, aside from the little white text copyright info, but not sure if that's a big deal to anyone). Haven't looked much at others yet as I just bought one frame and plan to keep them all in it/switch them out for now as I only have the space to hang one at the moment.

As for matting, other than losing some of the border design on wedding one, all of them should be able to be custom matted without losing anything(it's close, but possible).

But float frames are cool, I used one for the mane six's blind bag cards:

Though that's a neat way to set the posters up, gabumon! Definitely gotta see a hanging pic!
