Thanks

We can't tell you our secrets.   :P

While I don't have any tried-and-true pony stops to suggest, I do think a very fun place to stop and browse all the 80s toys and collectibles is at http://www.quakechicago.com/page8.php, Quake Collectibles.  The ponies I've seen there in the past have been common and overpriced, but it is still such a fun shop to browse with all kinds of MIB/MOC action figures, lunch boxes, pez dispensers, and bins and bins and bins of loose action figures.  :)

So, if you don't find anything better, it is a fun way to spend an evening.

Oooooh that sounds super fun! I'll try and check it out!

Anyone else have any suggestions, I'm just looking for regular G4 stuff too, anywhere that has more than core 6;)

There are TRUs and Targets all over the Chicagoland area. The new stuff is coming out right now.

Sometimes the Thrift stores have older pony stuff but it's hit or miss.

All depend on the area of Chicago.

One of the suburbs, Schaumburg has a huge mall that's nice. I just don't know anymore if there are specific places in the mall that will have pony stuff.

Good luck!
 >_<^.^

If you find any good places, let me know. Sadly, I NEVER find any G1 ponies around here but garage sales have lots of G3 ponies!

Oooh!!! I am so happy you made this thread! I made one in off topic a while back but no one replied so I thought many people were not in Chicago at all. I will be back school there starting end of this month. ^__^

I never had luck downtown going to Targets, especially the one on Roosevelt & Clark street so DON'T go there! That's all I can say though since I decided to shop only back home where I have actually found ponies in a store.

And I have 85% had luck in Chicago thrifting for ponies, so check out some stores! There are a lot in the Belmont area and south of downtown. :) :)

songtoisis thanks for pointing that out. It would be fun to visit sometime even if there weren't ponies because my roomate and I love the old 80s toys anyways, and I can never seem to buy ponies for myself unless they are in front of my face even if they are overpriced. (I buy more ponies for other people really! lol)

I'm headed to Chicago myself in November. My mom and two brothers are going too (dad is staying home and will babysit the dog, haha!).  If I found a thrift shop I'd definitely check it out. But we are staying in the heart of the city and I doubt there are many thrift shops around there. We'll be too busy spending money on cabs, drinks, and food. :P

I just moved to Chicago!!( a year ago LOL) but still I've had great success  in finding G1 ponies in thrift stores! Unique Thrift stores and Village Discount Outlet are great for finding ponies.

There's an antique toy and doll fair in April and October at the Kane County fair in St. Charles.
It's actually not that good for ponies, usually I'll see only a couple booths that have any.
But there's lots of other old toys, it's definitely worth going to.

Other that that, I've had very little pony luck with thrift stores.

Depends on what you're looking for and where you are: Lots of Targets/Walmarts/etc for the current waves, although we usually seem to be about a month behind for playful pony waves (the northwest suburbs just got the latest wave this week). I've only found like 3 very common G1s in the thrift stores in my area, although I've heard good things about thrift stores closer to the city, especially for G3s.

The large mall is Woodfield and its a complete bust for ponies, but if you like Legos or Sanrio merchandise, they're pretty awesome.

Go to thrift stores. When I lived in Chicago I wasn't into hunting for anything but in a big city like that it seems like there would HAVE to be a bunch of thrift stores with lots of items.

It could also mean things get picked up faster...hum.

The two thrift stores that you can find no problem are:

Goodwill & Arc
