If you DO have to send cash. get a bubble envelope, roll the cash up and stick it in a fakie, and send it that way.  With delivery confirmation!

Best suggestion ever! (that is if the person on the receiving end knows about it and doesn't just throw away the fakie)

I think people used to do that in the early days  :P its actually not a bad idea if you are going to risk sending cash to do it this way. Its still best not to send cash though if possible

You know it should send off serious red flags if a seller asks for cash sent through the mail.  Even the post office says you shouldn't mail cash!!  Stupidly, I saw cheap G4 ponies from a newbie seller and disregarded my common sense.  I ended up out money because I didn't listen to my gut.  Most sellers have Paypal as it is relatively safe for both seller and buyer.  I leaned my lesson and I hope others will too.  I'd hate to see this happen again.

This past year 2012. I completed 4 successful transactions with people sending me CASH. I would NEVER send send cash to anyone that I hadn't traded with before or who has a long standing relationship with the pony community. If they buyer initiates the idea of sending cash I always let them know that it is their OWN RISK.

I am an honest person (perhaps not the quickest with mailing packages out, but they ALWAYS get shipped), sadly not everyone is.

PP or MO are your best options.

when I was younger, I sent cash in to pay a cell phone bill.  I had just gotten back from NYC, and all my money was in paper form, so I just mailed off what I owed.

needless to say, it never got there, and I was out $160 (I has missed the previous month, so that was 2 months worth of payments)

never send cash.  period.
looking into a re-branding.

Cash used to be a common way to pay sellers in other countries, as international money orders usually cost a lot to cash and PayPal didn't exist yet.   I agree that it shouldn't be done if you don't know the seller (or if the seller doesn't have a ton of feedback.)

I should have clarified myself a bit better: it should send off red flags when a newbie seller asks for cash.  Chipster, you bring up a really good point about mailing cash to/from those with whom you know are reliable:)
