Blind Bag Glitter Removal
« on: August 10, 2012, 05:43:46 PM »
I saw a topic about this but it was locked and I was wondering if anyone could give me more tips than were suggested in the original topic.
I've got the glitter off the body by using hot water and scraping with my fingernail but the pony still has what appears to be the glue leaving a speckled/foggy/textured look to the plastic. The suggestion was to use Acetone but all my nail polish removers are acetone free, I've also tried to use other products that are meant to remove glue but they haven't made a difference.

Can anyone suggest a way to properly clean the blind bags of their glitter?
And if you suggest Acetone where can I actually buy it?

Nail polish remover with acetone in, isn't that great I was using it to prep ponies for customising and it just smudged the paint around so probably wouldn't be that effective on glue. If you can get hold of pure acetone that will probably do the job as it seems to remove everything. You might find it in a chemist or hardware store. I got mine from Boots which is a chemist in the UK

You can get pure acetone at a lot of drugstores actually, as well as beauty supply stores. It would be with the other nail polish removers. I dunno if the brand would be the same in Australia, but mine is called Onyx.

Just a warning, don't leave the BB pony in pure acetone too long. I did and melted an ear off XD When I started working the glitter off the BBs I dunked them in just enough acetone to submerge them and then swirled them around a lot and kept the acetone agitated like that. I also washed them in gently boiling water to help soften that glue.

The few that I just stripped I put them in enough acetone to cover them and left them sitting there for a few minutes. I swirled them around a few times in the process. Then I just pulled them out and the glitter was all gone with no scraping or scrubbing of any kind, and the pony was just fine.
