Ditto that. I'm in the market, but I can never manage to save up money. The camera I have now was never supposed to be used for this kind of photography - I bought it as my "throw in my purse or stick in my pocket for when I go out with friends" camera. But shortly after getting it my big camera finally died.

I know  I keep putting "new camera" on my Christmas/birthday list and somehow when the time rolls around the money always goes to something else. Plus with how good the iPhone's camera is, I feel like cameras in general will or should be stepping it up a lot in the near future.

I have always bought my own, partly because I can't imagine someone else spending that kind of money on me, and partly because I'm super picky XD

The last camera I had before this one was a canon powershot S2 IS, which even after being "obsolete" for a few years was hands down the best camera I have ever owned. I would buy it again now, even though it's almost 8 years old and has a laughably small amount of MP. It took high quality photos with such little effort, and still allowed the photographer completely manual control, which is becoming rare for a consumer line point-and-shoot. So Versatile. I miss it dearly.

I really need a much better camera, too.  I see pics on here that just blow mine out of the water.  My camera's at least 5 years old, and I doubt it was a new model when I bought it.  What's sad is my phone's camera is almost as good as it...lol.  I can do macro shooting and tweak iso and lighting types, but that's about it.  It has a hard time focusing on close objects even in macro mode, so a lot of my pics come out blurry, even when my hand is very steady.  It seems to not pick up all the light either...but then, I also need more lights for my box... hopefully after I move in October I'll have more access to outdoor spaces and light (here I have absolutely nothing; our only window gets no direct sunlight EVER, and the only outdoor space I can use to take pics is in the courtyard and I really don't want to take pics in front of my neighbors' doors...I also don't have a car and there's no outdoor green space within walking distance x.x)

I'd REALLY like a dslr, and am kinda holding off buying a new one til I can get one of those.

Edit: HAHA my fiance just told me his dad just bought a DSLR, guess what I'm going to be playing with when we move to Texas XD

I just want a simple little camera. I'm no photographer by any stretch of the imagination. I just like making pretty pics. (Which is something you kinda gotta do if you want to paint). :D

Fantastic photos! I LOVVVEEEE the yak. Where did you take that?

I don't have the brain to figure out how to adjust the settings manually...wish I did. I just have a simple, small Canon Powershot. I took a photography class a few years back, and the teacher was amazed that I was able to get such images like below out of it. I think with the right lightning and technique, even a basic digital camera can produce stellar pics!

P.S. I will be away at a work picnic for most of tomorrow, but the judges hope to finish their critique by tomorrow evening or Sunday at the latest. Please be patient with us!

Those are lovely, Tuney!

And it's not a Yak, it's a Scottish Highland Cow, and her name is Bonnie ^_^ She used to live at my zoo, but she recently moved to an awesome farm when we redesigned that area of the zoo.  She was the sweetest cow ever, I miss her D:

I had a feeling I should have asked what animal it was before calling it a yak! Ha! Adorable and perfectly suited name for her too.

Those pics are stunning :lovey:

I've been using my Nokia N8 for the past few challenges (heck I've used it every day since I bought it over a year ago!) but I dug out my Kodak Z740 for this shoot. I LOVE this camera - it's been around Borneo with me, and I've taken so many pics with it. I felt kind of guilty as I hadn't used it for a while but wow it is super-unforgiving for hand shake and trying to tweak the ISO so light things (Lilithas mush) don't appear all washed out. I don't have the ISO freedom I thought I had on it, it has settings of 80, 100, 200, 300 and 400 but doesn't like indoor shots. It's an old camera too so starting to show a bit of wear. I found out my old tripod too, which somehow got broken somewhere (the platform the camera screws onto is frozen).
Maybe I should get a new 'proper' camera....but I am insanely emotionally attached to my Kodak
