My failed attempt at a custom..

Look who I found!

When I first got back into Ponies, I got a pony in a lot that was covered in sharpy marks. I thought I'd dabble in making a custom and that's how it turned out. Terrible. I couldn't even do the eyes! Just thought i'd share lol. She's terrible.. The idea of her was great but.. there's black paint stuck in her hair and her cutie mark didn't turn out like I wanted. >.<

Not sure what I'm going to do with her. Can't bring myself to toss her lol.... she is a pony after all.

And no, she's not an original G1. She was a remake Cotton Candy from.. 2007? I tried to sunfade her permanent marker out but it did not work. :(

Practice makes perfect^^.

There are alot of custom makers out there that will give you valuable advice. I'm sure. I love the cutie mark art!^^

Aw...Well, she was a first attempt. I see what you were trying to do, so your design just needs another shot, maybe? :) You could cut the hair out and maybe salvage some of it and try to repaint her before putting the hair in again. What type of paint did you use?

She's so glossy! I think she has real charm and character about her, and I love those colors!

I'm pretty sure that a lot of us have had custom catastrophes... Well, I sure have, anyway. I can't bring myself get rid of my first custom, either. It was an excellent learning experience for sure! :)

Just keep going with it or restart it.  It's a bait after all so you can redo her all you want until she's how you like her.  I also think you should reroot her. Also maybe bring some bright colors for her hair and symbols!

No matter how much practice I got I wouldnt be able to get even a tenth of the skill of most customisers so I am always impressed by how creative people can be. I think the idea of the base colour, the symbol and perhaps a range of pinks and reds and creams through her hair would be great :) Maybe you should try all over again with her?

Well if it makes you feel any better she looks ALOT better than my first and only attempt on a custom pony XD

It was ages ago now, I think I was only like 12 but I had a Mummy Sweet Celebration in poor condition that I decided to try and customize. I used normal pain to paint her body which ended up EVERYWHERE. So she had big clumps of paint on her which didn't look very nice >.< Then I sprayed her with glitter-spray which made her maine and tail completely stiff XD
I wonder if I still have her around. I should keep her as a remind to never ever attempt to customize ponies again XD

I can't for my life understand how so many people make such wonderfull and beautiful customs. Such talent is amazing and I'm so envious :P

Marker pen or not that must have taken serious patience to colour all her hair Sarah!

I am working on my first custom and it is not going well. Had to strip him once. Messed up the stripping, will have to do it again. >.< My hands have a better paint job from the stripping of his paint than he does!

Practice. Practice. Practice. Keep at it and it will get easier. It's all about learning from your mistakes and moving forward!

She was a fakie and her body came out SO tacky from the paint... but she was a gift for someone and he liked her anyway so all was well I suppose.

Its all about what you learn from the experience, so its never a fail, you always gain something in the long run :)

Finally, I'm not the only one who likes the smell of Sharpies! Hubbs will totally go at me because whenever I have to use one I'll smell it before I start writing with it and once more before I cap it. LOL. I'm very smell-oriented.

I also agree with the last statement. The first few won't come out perfect, but you'll be able to look them over and realize your mistakes. Then you can work on it and move forward.

Exactly.

And is your "yield for nothing" a quote from REPO ? :)
