Need serious opinions on a major project idea!

So my husband and I went to SDCC this year and purchased a giant Marvel Helicarrier.  Not sure if any of you know what I'm talking about.  It is 4 feet long.  Here is a pic.

After we opened it, I had a "light over the head" idea for it.  I want to airbrush it sky blue, paint on some fluffy clouds and a rainbow runway and maybe rainbow ribbons shooting from the cannons.  This could be a wicked My Little Pony skybase.  Maybe with Rainbow Dash or the Wonderbolts manning it?  My husband thinks I'm nuts as well as my two sons.  They want to turn it into a GI Joe base.  My husband does amazing GI Joe customs.  But I thought a pony base would be AmAzInG.

Tell me what you think.  Any other ideas to go with it?  I have to prove to my hubby that I'm not the only one that thinks it's cool!

I'd totally customize it in a MLP/Steampunk way and have steampunky customs of G4 Pegasi manning (more like "maring"?) it!
I really like G4 + Steampunk, just becaue I think it fits the style of the franchise better than hightech.

No matter what you do with it: I think making it pony-themed is much more original than GI Joe. And I'm not saying that as a Pony-Fan but as a friend of "girl franchise meets boy franchise"-stuff

I agree with Zapper and go for the Steampunk look, that way it would be more boyish for the men and girlish for your ponies and make a set of steampunk ponies, maybe a steampunk version of Rainbowdash and so on? I would like to see it bronze/golds and white

Well, see, My Marvel Nerd side is saying "Nooooo! The Helicarier needs no improvements! Except maybe Hulk and Loki-proofing it, but meh."

However my Pony side is saying "The Wonderbolts would be thrilled."

I also really dig the steampunk idea. Would be kind of a perfect combo!

Or if your hubby and sons have their way...well. Obviously the answer is Military-style G.I. Pony customs to man it alongside his customs.

I guess I'm the only person that thinks Steampunking (is that a word?) it would be sad.  What I loved so much about your first idea (which I support, btw ) is that at least how I was picturing it, it would be a complete makeover.  No metal, no gears, no technological looking parts.  It was going to turn into something pretty much exactly opposite of what it currently is and I thought that was AWESOME!

I do have to add a disclaimer that I completely, 100% just don't "get" the Steampunk trend/lifestyle one bit, so I'm not a very good judge of this sort of thing. 

*EDIT to add another disclaimer* I have absolutely nothing against Steampunk and hope that I didn't offend anyone.  I think that it's a very interesting style, I just haven't figured out how, exactly it works (kind of like how bacon is such a big trend right now, I just can't figure out where the excitement behind it came from).
