Paradise and hydrogen peroxide baths
« on: July 22, 2012, 03:29:00 PM »
Hi, everypony!

I'm in the process of cleaning a really gross old Paradise.  She was pretty nasty inside, moldy and rusty, and most of its gone with an internal peroxide soak.  The deflock went really well, she only has one more session with Oxiclean & hot water before all the little bitty bits of glue residue are gone.  Now I'm looking at her, and she's really sort of more ecru than white (though maybe I'm unfairly comparing her to a white G3, only a couple decades difference, ).  I'm considering immersing her in peroxide and setting her to sit in the sun.  But I remember reading how neon coloured pony hair is a nono for that treatment.  Is that only the electric green-yellow like Surprise and Shady, or is that any neon bright hair?  Will Paradise turn wierd colours?

Thanks! ^.^  (And yes, photos will be forthcoming - I'm on number 5 of a batch of 6 ponies to be prettied up, so far Paradise is the worst off, but I haven't yet touched rusty baby Tiddly winks... yikes!)

Good question. I believe that color reddish/orange has had an adverse effect-massive color change when exposed to H202.

Do a test strand first. But if all the glue is off her, sunfading should do the trick.

The yellow hair is the most notorious for the colour change but unfortunately some of the brighter shades are also not completely 100% colour fast although no where near the degree as the yellow and some of them are minor issues. However, any kind of chemical on hair which has been colour treated essentially does run the risk of damage.

The ecru colour is possibly a residual from yellowing glue - as others have suggested I would go with a sun fade before you try anything else - completely worth trying that on a white pony before you move on to more chemicals.

Good luck and cant wait to see the pictures :)

Unfortunately her bright red hair is subject to color bleeding or changing. Somebody had a pony with such hair turn blonde in peroxide.

I remember this pony!  Wasn't it Sugarberry who became a bleach-blonde??  As I remember, she actually looked quite lovely:)

Ah, thank you, everypony! ^.^  Since we've had nothing but sun for most of a month now, I'll just get her taped and foiled up, and set her in the sun to let it work its magic.  Guess a drought has its benefits, for ponies, at least!
