What would a nine year old like?

I want to make a gift for my cousins daughter, she turns nine. I haven't really got any idea what girls that age love these days, help me a bit by throwing ideas for the ponys theme.

Butterflies?

According to my 9 yo niece, yes.  According to my 7 yo, ditto.  With lots of bright color and bling.

I would ask her parents what her interests are, so you can customise her to her tastes.  It could be soccer, or video games for all you know.  My 7 year old half-sister is obsessed with skulls and skateboards, and would be offended by flowers/pink/girly things, lol.

I asked my 9 year old niece and she told me zebra stripes and lots of bling. I'm sure if I ask her again tomorrow she'll tell me something totally different.
 I second asking her parents for hints about what she likes. Little girls can be pretty fickle!

Having an 11 yr. old and a 7 yr. old girl who are very different from one another, I'd have to say the only common threads would be sparkly things and lots of colors.  Beyond that, Buttercream's suggestion about asking her parents what she's into in a really good one. 

At 9, most kids really have opinions about what they like.  Ex. my 11 year old loves blue, black, green, peace signs, skulls, doesn't like to have her hair done, hates dresses, and is into music and gymnastics, whereas my 7 year old loves pink, purple, flowers, princess things, loves dresses, having her hair done and is into dancing and animals.  (11 yr old doesn't like animals at all!)

The whole peace sign thing is really big right now, both of my girls like stuff with them on it...glittery stuff is also very in with that age set right now too.

She has like 2x1meter stable made for my little ponies. =) But I might just ask her mom what she'd like (thou I kinda wanted the pony to be a surprise for her too).
