Precious Gem hair problem.. *possibly fixed???*
« on: July 21, 2012, 11:35:05 PM »
I have a G3 Precious Gem with some serious hair problems!

It seems that the curls in her tail have turned to more of a big tangled ball of friz. I loved her factory curls and am wondering if there's anything to do to restore her? Combing her hair out doesn't seem to help! Any ideas? Anyone have experience dealing with super long curly pony hair?

EDIT: I ended up giving her a shampoo and brushed out what I could of the knots but she did end up getting a trim at the tips where the knots were the worst. I twirled and wrapped her hair and tail around her feet.. Any hopes of restoring her curlyness though?

I took all the colors and twirled them around her legs for a few minutes

After that I kind of ran my fingers through them to poof them out more

^ So that's her now.. and this is a pictures of her before:

Does it look better or does it need more care? I cut off about an inch or two worth of knots and dead ends.

I haven't tried it with this pony before, but if it were me I would try doing straw curls then gently separate each with a pick (like the one she originally came with) but not a brush.

Have you tried to simply dip her hair in almost boiling water, comb out and repeat several times? This tends to work really well with tangled hair as the plastic hair "slips" apart and makes it more easy to comb and easier to detangle.

I don't think the pics look bad at all. Even the before pics look fine to me, that's about how she has looked like every time I have seen her. :)

I'm afraid to boil her hair lol

Her hair is much softer now and looks more fuller. I didn't like her factory hair because it was kind of crunchy and looked flat. Looks like this girl went through quite a bit of play! I kind of like her hair now. It's much softer though someday I might curl each plug separately.

:) I think I'll leave her as it is. Though I just knew she'll end up tangled again. That's the thing about curly hair lol...

Though because of that word I used, I know a photoshoot with a certain doll that she'll be in :D
