Sealer to use on a pearl FBR?
« on: July 21, 2012, 12:26:13 AM »
I have a pony with a pearl FBR. If I use testors dullcote on it I'm afraid it will lose way too much luster and shine. I would use mod podge but sometimes it can go sticky in humidity and I'm not sure what the humidity is like where my swap partner lives.

What would you recommend using to seal it with?

can you ask your partner what the humidity is like?

i live in a fairly humid enviroment
coastal - tropics

and i only ever use mod poge, some times it takes a long time to dry   but thats the only issue ive ever had with it,  ive never experianced  sticky  customs  from it.

hope it helps

I've used dullcote on shimmery things without much of a problem, I'm not sure with pearl FBRs though.
My g4 version of my Pony OC has shimmery spots which I did use dullcote over and they still shimmer. Selene, one of my G3 trade customs which now is back with me, had metallic paint used for much of her symbol work and dullcote sealed and still has that metallic shimmer (at least to me XD)

Pop-girl uses dullcote and I think she might have used it on shimmery ponies... so maybe she will give some input on it ^^;
My DeviantArt, why not drop by and take a look!

I use Dullcote on everything including shimmery ponies. :P

I'd also like to mention that while Mod Podge does go sticky in humidity *eyes fuzzy dust covered swap customs* watering it down makes a huge difference. My dustiest swap ponies are the ones sealed with straight Mod Podge. The ones sealed with the watered down version stay relatively nice. ;) My main issue with people using Mod Podge is those who use it straight out of the bottle without thinning it.

Do they sell Dullcoat at Michael's? And if not, where is the best place to get it (and relatively quickly)?

I buy it at both Michael's and Hobby Lobby. You can find it in the Testor's display where they sell model cars and such. ;)

Thanks! Oh, is it a spray only or does it also come in brush on form? I've never tried a spray sealer before...

Just went to the website and it looks like they have a brush on (if that's what Lacquer is)

I've done a pearl FBR. I used Delta Ceramcoat matte sealer, and she's plenty shiny :3

You're right! I just tried some Delta Ceramcoat on my shiny custom and it seems to be shiny still. Yay! Now I don't have to run out and buy another sealer XD
