Dissecting it -is- figuring it out for yourself. If you feel like sharing what you have gleaned, there is no big flaw in that.

i think, technically dissecting how someone else did it is figuring out how THEY did it, not figuring out how you want to do it.
I would like to see dartfrog's idea -- I know that in the past I have done dye work using hot glue to mask off area or design that i want the original body color to remain -- then dye the pony...it really does have a neat effect ^_^ can't wait to see what you come up with dart!

cook - I LOVE that pony!

This ^^
IMO it's disrespectful to kaoskat to sit here and post a "this is what I think she did" step-by-step list of her process. I know she has spent a lot of time with trial and error on these ponies and deserves all credit for them. We all post pictures here to show off our work, not to have our work inspected and copied.

I hope I explain this right..I have it in my head perfectly but that doesn't mean it will come out that way..lol..
What about painting a base coat on a pony and taking something like a dropper (I think I have the name right ) and fill it with paint (probably water it down a little to thin it out maybe?) and squeeze it to where the paint would shoot out on the pony and let in dry then use a different color and repeat the process at different angles till you have the desired effect you want.. That's what I thought about doing whenever I decide to do one.. Now I have no clue if it would work but it is a thought :)

Aw man, I was hoping this thread would be about tie-dying like, with dye! :P Ah well, good luck in your endeavors, OP. From what I've seen, I don't think that chalk would be strong enough to dye plastic? You should stick with RIT dye, or something strong like that. :)
