Pretty Pretty Bettas
« on: July 13, 2012, 05:02:12 PM »
first off *sigh* I've started buyin bettas again. I've had fish tanks on and off  my whole life but fell in love with bettas oh, about 10 years ago. I've had a number of guys and girls since then. They are so pretty and so hard to resist buying, especially when on sale. After a stretch of several months  I bought Girle and Ghostie a few weeks ago...and today I gave in again and bought a dragonscale boy. I've named him Niji.

I got him from a independent pet store and couldn't believe that he was $3.99 They sell dragonscale boys at petsmart for $9  I think, and possibly more at Petco. I thinking I'm gonna set up my 20 gal long and get some separators for my trio to live in instead of how I currently have them.  My mom is gonna be SOOO thrilled that I'm setting up a fish tank again only months after disassembling it XD

Show off pics of your pretty bettas!

Niji, the new boy

He's flaring at my fingernail since it still has some color on it. He was so spunky and interested in me at the petstore that I broke and brought him

Ghostie, he's hard to photograph in the bowl I have him in. He's pretty calm but he spooks easily at times.

Girlie, the little fish with the biggest house at the moment. She's spunky. She's also recovering from finrot, which I was afraid was wanna kill her, but she had a strong will to live.

and a video of both of them :)  (click pic to watch!  I'm sad that I can only keep them in the small tanks for now, but at least they're not the cups from the store!)  (btw - you can see the bubble nest nova keep building in the side that faces luna)

I love Bettas.  I would have several if I could.

This is Sammie my veil tail betta, got him september 2011.

(he has had problems with fin rot ever since i got him but he's doing better)

I just got Speckles last month.  A Halfmoon double tail betta.  I have before and after photos of him.  He originally was marbled with just a little color, and now is full of color.

he looks like an underwater butterfly when he flares his fins.  he's really beautiful but his blue colors are very hard to photograph so i don't have good photos of him.  most of the time the blue comes out green.

Sammie and Speckles both live in their own 5.5 gallon tanks with three ghost shrimp each.  They also prefer different water temperatures from eachother, it's funny how full of personality bettas are!

I love bettas. :D Unfortunately due to the terrible pet stores (every single betta we ever saw was either dead or had fin rot) and some other factors I'm not in control of, we don't have one anymore. The fish stuff was tossed in the trash so we can't change our mind later. :/

This is Rebel! The first betta I've had since I was little. He came home with fin rot and we could never get it fully cured.

And this is King Bubbly! During a water change, don't worry. He also came home with fin rot, but his got a lot worse than Rebel's ever did before he died. ):

The girls are my favorite. Girl power! It drives me insane when people pronounce them like the Greek letter though. Its like fingernails on a chalkboard. You really want to drool over bettas check out the ones on aquabid.com

ooo, Luna is so pretty. I love marble bettas. I had 2 marbles girls before that I got at Walmart of all places. They sure do change a lot in a pretty short time after you  bring them home.

Bettas are so cute!  I had a few in college since we couldn't have any other pets in the dorms, and that's where my online nick came from.  I do miss having them, though if I get another one I would have to weigh the tank lid down just incase my cat Loki decides to help herself to a snack.

I've kept various fish but only ever had one betta. He was purple and black, I named him Oscar and he lived for 7 years. I loved that fish  I've thought about getting another many, many times. They have such great personalities. This thread isn't helping calm my desire for one :P

Whispers, Speckles is absolutely gorgeous! Was he sick when you got him or was he just young? I didn't know they could lose and gain color like that.

Thank you! Photos don't do him justice! I've learned that marbled bettas don't stay the same color, due to the gene that causes the marbling.

It's really amazing to see a fish turn colors like that!  I'm guessing Speckles will continue filling out with color.  At first it was disappointing because I have always wanted a marbled halfmoon betta but I love him just the way he is!

Some bettas also tend to change color when the come home from the store because they were most likely all stressed out in those little cups and/or from being in close proximity to other bettas.  Sometimes what you think is a white betta will turn out to be a bright red!

I love bettas! I used to have 12 of them two years ago, but unfortunately we lost power during a blizzard and they all died despite my attempts to keep them in a warm place. I was devastated, and only recently brought a new betta into my home. His name is Captain America, but I don't have a photo of him right now since I'm on vacation. He's red, white and blue.
