What's the max you are willing to pay for a pony?
« on: July 11, 2012, 02:24:57 PM »
Just another little ponder.

I'm more into G3s than G1s, meaning I'm not willing to go very high unless it's one of the Comic Con factory prototypes, or a pony like Frisco, Rosey Posey, or Licensing Show Pinkie Pie. (and when they do, i'm very willing to pay a large chunk of money for them if i have the money.)

Some ponies I would NEVER think about paying a giant chunk of money for though. (Aka: Rapunzel, Reverse Gusty, SA Nirvanas, and Takaras and any pony that goes above and beyond the 200 dollar mark.)

So, what's your max budget on one pony? Or do you not have one and if you really want the pony, buy her / him?

Mostly for regular ponies I'll want to pay under £10 with shipping, and I like to get bundles if at all possible. The most I've paid so far is £35 for one pony, I've also done a couple at around the £20 mark, but generally I try not to do that very often. I'm all about finding ponies listed on eBay in the wrong place, and hoping no-one else sees them and I snag them! Also I'm hoping to go and get some from charity shops/car boot sales soon so they'll be cheap too.

If I had the opportunity to set the price on a pony, I'd definitely pay up to $50 for any of the Nirvanas.  But that's silly, seeing as how buyers set the price and most of them sell for triple-digits!  Anything past $50 and I start thinking, "That's a payment on a bill - I could eliminate that debt."

I have my whole life to collect ponies... I don't want to spend my whole life paying debts back!

$20-30 tends to be my limit for ponies (and playline dolls like MH/Disney/etc). For grails I feel more flexible... it would depend on how much money I had at the time and how much I wanted that grail. But getting up to $50 feels like a lot to me too, like lovesbabysquirmy says, I start to wonder if I'd do better to put that toward something practical instead of my collections ^.^ Usually for purchases like that I will ask for it as a birthday present

I paid $47 for this year's SDCC/Fair pony on ebay... though I'm still not positive I'll really get her... $50 is probably my max.

I have a hard time spending more than $5. Heck I have a hard time spending money on anything, especially new stuff. I don't exactly have tons of extra money set aside for ponies, bills come first. I know I'm getting to the point in collecting where the ponies I'm looking for are not as common so I'm going to have to get over that limit.

I'm up to $30 currently ^^; I think it goes up the more you collect! I've got some pricey ponies on my wishlist.

No limit.

But I'd rather have one pony that I really love worth $100, than 5 ponies that I just like worth $20 each.

But really, I could go for 1 pony over a whole room of ponies.

as the years have gone on, my spending limit has increased... I used to think $20 was insane to spend on a pony... and now I've spent as much as $220 so it just depends.... as my list has gotten smaller I've been willing to spend more to complete it.

I would never spend more than $50 on a pony, and there are very few I'd be willing to pay so much for. $10-15 is my general limit. For things like nirvanas and Takaras, I'd rather just get a custom. I love my ponies, but $200+ could buy me a BJD so I cannot justify spending so much on a plastic pony that can really only stand there.

I've spent over $100 on a pony - but not very often.  My ultimate grail is Brazilian Milky Way, but I'm in no rush to spend the $300+ she commands at the moment.

Mmmm... I'm hovering around the $15 dollar mark myself (not counting shipping).  I've lucked out and spent as little as 0.30, but methinks those days are fading into the sunset... :(  Basically I figure what I would've spent on a pony back in the day, and adjust for inflation.  Though I was never much good with math, so maybe I'm not thinking this thru...

It depends on the pony really. I don't really have a limit. If I want it I'll pay what I think it is worth. I do try to watch going rates on the ones I want that are harder to find before just jumping in and paying a lot for it though.

$20 is my absolute tops ^^; there aren't any ponies I want bad enough to spend more than that on.  I can admire all the nirvanas I want, but I'll never be able to justify dropping that much on a plastic horse.  Under $10 is usually what I try to go for.  I'm cheap, what can I say?
