What do you consider to be worthy of the title: Bait?

I have a Sundance pony that to me is in really fair shape.  She has stains here and there all over...pink ones, blue ones and black ones. Not sure what happened to her but it must have been poor storage and rough play.  Maybe even a nasty brother lol.   It got me to thinking though about the true meaning of "bait." What qualifies a pony to be a bait for G1 ponies? Or is this a term that varies according to conditions acceptable to you?  Maybe my Sundance isn't a bait even as bad as she seems to me. Share your thoughts.

G1's? I dunno, I hate to bait any G1 unless it's truly hopeless, like all over mold, no paint, no hair... Mold is a big one for me, I hate mold

Yea mold is a problem. Its hard to get rid of on the outside of a pony especially a colored one.  I can see where this would be a bait worthy issue. Especially if its covered in it.

I won't bait G1's, I have ones in bad shape in 'retirement' I have a shelf for them! Get them all prettied up as good as I can and put them down on the shelf for a nice rest!

I think its all subjective - what someone considers bait another person may consider simply poor; what someone considers near mint another person may consider just good.

Its why I dont like giving a pony a one/two word "description" - mint, near mint, good, fair, poor, bait - I think you are better describing all faults and then people can judge where a pony falls on their scale of bait to mint.

There have been a few debates recently about this ^^ I´m in the G1 preservation camp and would vote for baiting a G1 only if it's in a horrible state.
There is a nifty grading system here made by some of the members to give a generalised overview to people that might be in doubt, but ultimately, any pony can be restored

Edit: and yes, I agree with Hathorcat. I personally have a few ponies living happily in my collection that I got as baits ^^

As some others mentioned it's all a matter of individual opinion.

However, beeing a really picky collector who want all my ponies to be completely flawless or it's not good enough , I still think that a G1 only should be considered bait when it's beyond repair. I know people here can do an amazing job restoring ponies, and aslong as the pony can be restored to it's former glory I don't think they should be considerd bait.

That's just my opinion though, as mentioned, it will be different from person to person

I agree with what others ave said, it varies person to person and I try to avoid saying "bait" on my sales ponies because of at distinction.

That said, for me a bait is a pony missing actual body part and/or covered in mold.  Horrible cancer is another issue.  I can deal with the other stuff.

I'm reluctant to consider G1s bait as well, I like to see them restored. But when there's a whole load of problems like with my Lemon Drop here:

Highlighter marks, head/body mismatch, missing tail (replaced with a weird one), crappy mane... and Lemon Drop is such a common pony anyway... to me she is bait. But she's the only one in my trades/collection I feel okay about calling a bait... I'm sure there's someone out there who'd still restore her!
