Mexican Pony Question Lili Ledy vs Lily Ledy?
« on: July 01, 2012, 11:26:34 AM »
Hey All,
  Tad confused on something, why is the company referred to as Lily Ledy when the foots stamps I have seen all say Lili Ledy and all the catalogs from the 70s for Star Wars and Mego Dolls?

What am I missing?

We are all collectively misspelling it, lol! :P But seriously, if someone has a better answer I'm interested, too.

From all the research I did I can't find anything on Lily Ledy, I was wondering if maybe it was on the packing possibly? But the old Starwars and Mego dolls say Lili ledy, so was curious if ponies were different or something changed in the 80s for the company (other than burning down)?

I've seen it written as both, and if I'm honest, I'm never sure which it's supposed to be! I *think* the hooves do say Lili Ledy, but I don't have one of my own to check.

Yes, mine Minty concave says Lili Ledy, and so do the 2 (flat and concave) I pictures of, so that is when I started wondering a researching, maybe just something that stuck over time?

My guess is it's because "Lily" isn't a natural Spanish spelling. If someone in Mexico heard the word "Lily" they would intuitively spell it as "Lili," while a native English speaker would switch it to "Lily".

I just looked up the Wikipedia page on Lili Ledi and even it has the word spelled differently on the same page:

"Lili Ledy contaba con dos líneas de juguetes: Lili, dedicada a las niñas, y Ledy, para los niños Una de sus muñecas más famosas fue Lagrimitas Lili cuyo tema musical de promoción tuvo una gran pregnancia y aún es recordado.[cita requerida] "Llora y llora y mueve sus manitas, sólo se contenta llevándola a pasear, a comer, a bañarse, a dormir, es lagrimitas Lilly, en su estuche cuatro en uno y cada uno para tí."

which says (rough translation);

"Lili Ledy consisted of two lines of toys: Lili, dedicated to girls, and Ledy, for boys. One of their most famous dolls was Little Tears Lili, whose theme song for promotion had great homogeneity and is still remembered. "Cries and cries and moves her hands, only happy being taken for a walk, eating, bathing, sleeping, is Little Tears Lily in this case four in one and each one for you."
