Help Needed to build an artist resource for alternate hairlines (Page created)

Alternate hairlines on ponies is something that can look absolutely stunning when done right, or be an eye sore when done wrong. If you aren't careful, the hair becomes SUPER thick in places, and thin in others.

I would like to collect and make available some patterns for alternate hairlines, and I need your help. I'm new to alternate hairlines myself, so I can't do them all on my lonesome

I have the following pony heads edited to show just the top of the head. Just save the image and then edit in where you punch the new hairline. Save the Image, keeping the original file name, but add on to the file name the name of your pattern. Please be sure to include each line of plugs you make. For example, if your design is a half moon from ear to ear, do you fill in the blank triangles that this makes to either side of the hair line?

When you are done, either post the images here with your notes on the style, or email them to me at [email protected] I will compile them all together into a comprehensive alternate hairline help file.

If you have any ponies finished with hair styles from the plug patterns you are submitting, please include a picture of them too to be used as a finished example!

What a neat idea!  Maybe artists could show a pony finished in that style to really help with visualization?

Ooh! I had meant to add that in originally, Colorscapesart. I guess I just forgot. I rewrote this request like.. 3 times lol.

I just really hope that I can get people to actually take the time to do this It would help so many people.

RevRuby gave me some great tips for working with bangs a while back.  You might drop her a line and see if she wants to participate.  It helped me out a lot.

This is a great idea:) Alternative hairlines are very daunting hen you;re doing it for the first time. This will be really useful. I will definitely do the g3 pattern I use for you when I nab the computer back at home:)

This is the pattern I use.

Results in this:) Always make the hair at the front a little longer so it won't stick out while you're styling it, although this won't matter if you plan to cut it anyway:) It usually comes out a bit thicker than the rest so add a few random plugs between the original rows and you're good to go:)

Saha that does help, but I need to collect the pattern to go with it. Even if it is just one row, seeing the pattern is SO much different than seeing the finished product. I would love you forever if you fill out a pattern also
