Now that the author is out he can wreak havoc on them all. The whole villians vs heros thing has always been a part of the show. However, just get it over already so we can have more character development/histories.

like......he's responsible for current couples? Because I really don't see how Belle and one of the Merry Men (I can't remember his name) are together; of course, I only pay attention to Belle when Rumple is around because I'm in love with Robert Carlyle lol

The Knave (who Belle is dating) isn't actually one of the merry men, he's from wonderland. I look at it and go "But you're supposed to be married to the new queen of hearts! there was an entire spin off about it!"

i know! Will Scarlet O'Hara (h/t Men in Tights) is the Knave who married the new Queen of Hearts with giant lips who is also not Cora. and it's all kinds of weird.
why is he with Belle? because he's there?
what happened to Ruby? why is there such a giant cast and we only see 5 characters at a time?
why is everyone coming back from the dead but not the most awesome people like Graham and Daniel?!??! ugh.

He may not have been writing Emma's story because he was locked up before she was born, but he WAS the Author during that crucial time. I'm pretty sure he made Snow and Charming do what they did to Lilith, Maleficent's baby. And when Snow saw Lilith really was a baby, she panicked and was desperate to save her. Her true nature broke through, and their guilt tortured them. But because the Author did what he did, influencing the Apprentice and Royals, he got punished and locked in the book. He recognized Snow and Charming, and took off. I'm really convinced of this.

Oh I fully think you are right on this part of theory and if it turns out you are wrong and Snow and Charming chose to sacrifice Maleficent's baby of their own free will I am going to be mighty disappointed as it just so goes against the characters the show has set them up to be. I mean, it would be an interesting twist if they did choose to act on their own, but at the same time it so goes against their personalities that it would almost be insulting at the same time....I dunno if I am explaining that right.

Will Scarlet was one of the Merry Men in the Enchanted Forest

He and Anastasia (aka The Red Queen) wanted to be together...but couldn't be due to her family.  Will stole a magic mirror from Maleficent and *pop* in they jumped and ended up in Wonderland.

Will & Anastasia were penniless and living on the road.  One day, the King of Hearts was having a party & they snuck in to get some food.  Well...the King of Hearts took a liking to Anastasia, knowing full well she was living the life of a pauper, and made her a proposition.  Become his wife and have everything she ever dreamed of.  Except...she was in love with Will.  Oh, decisions, decisions!

Well, she married the king and Will, well, he sought some help from Cora (or, she kinda found him).  'Cause Cora visited Wonderland every now & then (...I think she tried to overthrow the prior Queen of Hearts?)

At some point, Will went back to the Enchanted Forest.  He got caught up in Regina's curse.  Lived a life in Storybrooke for 30 years.  Then "Omg, I remember!"

...there's a bunch of wibbly wobbly timey wimey time travel thanks to the White Rabbit.  Will travels back to 19th century England, breaks Alice out of the looney bin, and have their OUATIW adventures.  Will and Anastasia are last seen at the wedding of Alice & Cyrus in 19th century England.

After Anastasia dumped will, Cora took Will's heart. I believe it ended up in what would become Regina's vault, but he stole it back and hid it inside the wall of his Storybrooke apartment sometime after the curse was broken (I'm a little foggy on this bit).

...except now Will is back in 21st century Storybrooke...and dating Belle...

So, there will be some catching up on his backstory in future plot lines

Either this is BEFORE he met Alice, but he would be dating Belle without a heart...

...or he and Anastasia aren't together any longer, so he time traveled back to the future to live in Storybrooke...

Well... I'm not as annoyed to see the Wicked Witch now, since it means that Regina doesn't need the Author to get her happy ending!

...... maybe. AUGH, I still hate her though.
