Colorado wildfire, everyone safe? Thoughts and prayers needed for WOLF Sanctuary

Omg I will defently say a prayec for every animal and every person. What horrible and such beautifull wolves!!!
I hope and pray they will know how to use the dens. I am glad they have them so they have a change of survival.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers guys.  The last update was about an hour ago and the sanctuary is still there.  They're currently arguing with the fire chief and trying to get back up to load the rest of the animals.  They were told no, but if I know the owner at all, he will have a raving fit if they don't budge on that.  There's a horde of volunteers with crates and vets with sedatives (not all the wolves are friendly enough to handle) at the bottom of the road, just waiting for word that they can go up.  With any luck, the wind will be in their favor today.

I may be overworking myself, but this is the first large fire that's been near my house since I got here in January. I think it's less than 20 miles from the house now- and considering it's burned over 20 miles so far, I'm sort of freaking out over here!

Don't worry too much, that's an awfully long distance for the fire to travel still.  But if they do give you an evacuation notice, let me know and I'll try to make it up to you so you can load stuff into my car. 

I will add the wolves to my prayers.  We have lots of friends and family in that area since I went to college there too and we are anxiously tracking the course of the fire as well.  Everyone in Colorado stay safe!

Pingree was supposed to start today but the road is closed.  Everyone had to meet in Edwards.    I will be so sad if Pingree burns again...

Thank you so much for this wonderful outpouring of concern and support for the wolves. With all the destruction and tragedy resulting from this fire it is easy to loose sight of the positive. Though we are still concerned for the wolves who have not been evacuated, we wanted to let you all know that the animals who are off the mountain are doing fantastic in their temporary homes and are even enjoying some of the specialized attention they are receiving.

So the silver lining is that the wolves who are safe are having a ball.  I'm not sure exactly who was removed, but I'm guessing the ambassador animals are safe, which means my 2 favorite boys should be doing well.  And I can't imagine they would ever allow Isabeau and Nashoba to be left behind...

In the meantime, I am going to start of a wolf-themed custom to sell.  Any money I make from it will go directly to the sanctuary.  Because it is very likely that they are going to have a lot of damage.  The owner actually lives at the sanctuary, he could end up homeless.

I just saw pictures of Horsetooth Revervoir... it's pretty bad.  I used to hike there!    (It's also next door to my Alma Mater's football field!)

You're totally right, but when the forests are overgrown like this, they get out of control really quickly.  When a fire burns too hot, it kills the seeds rather than release them.  And literally burns the nutrients out of the soil.  10 years ago, we had a fire that burner almost 140,000 acres.  The worst in Colorado history.  The trees aren't growing back and the forest service is literally having to replant them by hand.  I'm just hoping that this one isn't the same.  *sigh*

That's so scary   All of the people and animals in that area will be in my thoughts and prayers for sure!  Glad all looks positive for the wolves- they sure are beautiful animals. Hope the owner is doing ok too.

Thanks.  Any prayers help.  Frank (the owner) made it out safely, he stayed until the last possible second.  There's no people left up there, just the facility and the animals.

Some of the volunteers have scanners and are keeping the FB page updated.  The staff and volunteers were asking to be allowed up with an animal rescue escort, but have been denied.  They're waiting on another commander to try their luck again.
