BJD Shopping?
« on: June 06, 2012, 04:58:36 PM »
Thanks to barbgirl1999 all I've thinking about is BJDs!  I've browsed the Resinsoul website and saw some stuff I liked, but I wanted to shop around some more.  I know very little about this type of doll (really dolls in general.  I never collected dolls until MH hit a couple years ago) so any shopping advice would be great.  I've read alot of the threads with cleaning advice, and handling safety, so I'm good on that for now.  I just want to find the right girl (or guy) for me!

Maybe I should let you all know what I'm drawn to ;)   I like the hooved dolls alot!  The extra joints in the legs are so awesome.  Horns are neat too.  Also I've seen dragon looking ones that I think are cool.  I love those adorable tiny white animals I've been seeing alot in posts, but I probably won't be buying any.  I'd like to see where they come from though :)   Sorry I'm being so vague.  I seriously know nothing about these dolls, except they are starting to haunt my thoughts!

And lastly, has anyone heard of Angel Egg Dolls?  Do any of you have one?  I'd love to see some photos of them, or any photos you'd like to post for that matter.

BBB/RS dolls are really cute and on a more affordable scale. I love them! (Barb's Ariel is coming home with me, I couldn't resist)

I buy most of my dolls second hand. Sometimes third or fourth hand. (Mostly off of DoA) Usually there are good deals to be had depending on what sculpt you're looking for. Plus, if you don't mind, you can spend the majority of money on a sought after head and get them a cheaper body. Hybridizing can save tons of money. The bodies don't bother me so much and I'm not fussy over poseability because I don't do photo shoots.

If you're looking for hooved dolls and other fantasy parts, you can check out:

http://dollsoom.com/eng/gem.html (Higher priced brand that does monthly fantasy dolls)
http://angelheim.com/index.php (Luka the Pan is their hooved junior boy. He's so cute!)
http://www.leekeworld.com/en/ (Leeke sells horn and ear parts)
http://www.souldoll.com/index.php (Horns, and I think they had a centaur at one point?)
http://www.doll-chateau.com/ (They sell a moosetaur!) XD

There are others. Fantasy parts are really popular. Those are just ones off the top of my head. I think Batchix or someone was working on hooved legs for Unoa's and similar mini's, and Peapod dolls makes really awesome hooved legs.

Other great shops:

http://junkyspot.com/obindex.html (I can't say enough good things about Junky Spot!)
http://www.mintoncardinc.com/dolls/ (Months of LAYAWAY! And awesome selection and service)

Angel Egg just finished up an order period, so there should be a flood of pics when they start arriving. The maker has a tumblr up with some really nice photography and face-ups.

Hope that helps!

Yay!!!  I second ALL that stuff that she said, lol!  Junkyspot is probably my favorite place to buy dolls.

There's also Denver Doll Emporium    http://www.denverdoll.com/
They selll a lot of different brands of dolls and they offer layaway as well.  They also sell some clothes, wigs, etc.  And once the doll is paid off, they ship SUPER fast...I think I got my Mei in 2 days!

I also buy a lot of my doll clothes from mimiwoo or mybayer2008 on ebay.

I love hooved/horned dolls too, I have a Resinsoul AI, and she's absolutely gorgeous...here's a little spam for you ^_^

I should take her out for pics again, since she finally has a wig that fits her head, lol.

You can also get a doll you like and add the horn parts later. Most are removable with magnets!

Ugh!  I've been shopping for two days!  I've gone through every website you all have given me, and there are just too many choices.  It's not like I have hundreds of dollars laying around either, so I can shop, shop, shop until I find just the right one.  Thanks for all the help even if I didn't find 'the one.'  I think what is throwing me off is the wig and eye options.  Oh, and skin color too.  I don't make choices very well    I think I'm better off buying used, really.  No choices there    At least all the shopping has helped me learn some of the language.  Maybe now I can follow a BJD thread >_<

I also am completely in love with the hooved and dragon BJD's other Arena members have posted here. I've started a BJD bookmark folder solely for ones I fall in love with. :D They're so expensive though, and combined with my other dolly loves...a very distant dream.

I think I'm in love!  How am I going to explain to my husband that I NEED $500 dollars?  She's nothing like the doll I thought I wanted.  What's up with that?

My sister used to have E-an! She lives with Knibitz now and looks different, but a pretty amazing doll! :)

I had Calla once upon a time~ But my love for Minifee was too strong. XD

Hi!

I hope it's alright to post this here, but I actually wrote an article on my blog about choosing your first BJD which may be of interest to you. You can read it here: http://inkymilkdrop.blogspot.com/2012/02/bjds-choosing-your-doll.html

Perhaps it will give you a few more aspects to think about as well :)

I have an Ean :) got her about a month ago, but she's been out with cats10 getting a face up till last week!
Really gorgeous doll :) is very quickly becoming my favorite out of my small army of bjds XD
I will say that if posing is going to be important to you then get the new body. Ive owned both types and they're just like night an day with posing ability.

I haven't taken many photos of my ean yet... Right after I got her I moved across the country XD. But there are some Instagram shots and one nicer shot on my Flickr that I think is linked in my signature.

I only have my phone for Internet right now but I realized that photos of my ean are buried in other stuff XD so here's an awkward link to one shot http://m.flickr.com/lightbox?id=7360346334

Thanks everyone!  You've been very helpful.  Doesn't look like I'll be able to convince my husband I need a $500+ doll.  He's not to keen on my $20 doll purchases, so I'm not surprised.  Maybe one day a BJD will just fall into my lap.  Until then, I'll keep shopping.
