Sunshine Ponies
« on: May 29, 2012, 03:41:50 PM »
I have a question about these. I am having a hard time finding them without serious breakage in the white parts of the mane and tail.  They are always really frizzy and when you brush the hair it just splits off literally in half and falls out.  Is this common since it was color changing?  Conditioning doesn't seem to help any of these.  The colored hair is fine, its only the white. I have no idea how to make any of mine look better.

I have the same problem with my one.... Still changes colors though. I wish it werent true, but I think they may have to be MIB to be perfectly normal...  :(

yes that is a common problem with all color changing hair :/
it is possible to find one that is not frizzy but they are a tad more expensive usually ^_^

you can always flat iron the hair!
that works wonders :)

Yep... I think they are pretty tough to find without that doggone frizz. I got a Mainsail some months back. She was in awful condition so off to the pony spa, quite confident that she'd clean up a treat, and prepared to have that colour changing part of her hair remain a dry mess. What I wasn't prepared for was losing half the tail in the cleaning process!

They can be found in lovely condition; my childhood Sanddigger is a beauty. The white part of her hair has become a little dry at the ends, but otherwise I'd call her mint.

Common issue with the color changing hair, alas.  Potentially because it's UV reactive, and thus more prone to breakdown?  There has to be something about it specifically that is less durable, since it seems unlikely the rest of the pony wasn't exposed to the same conditions (amount of sun, brushing, method of storage, etc.) and yet the regular nylon hair is almost always in much better shape.

Yes, it's made of a different material than normal MLP hair I think; it's much stiffer I've noticed, even when it's in relatively good condition it's harder to style and tends to frizz at the ends. Does anyone know if heat styling ruins the color-changing ability of the hair? I've been wary to use my flat iron because I'm worried about that. Conditioning doesn't do anything for it. I've half a mind to rehair my really bad ones with newer color-changing hair that matches the old color, because it's so much easier to work with.

I tried a flat iron on one of mine and it never fixed the problem anyway. Didn't work at all...it still color changes some..not evenly.

Yuck...colour UV sensitive hair the bane of my existence...I dont think any of my ponies with this have nice hair its so frustrating!

I would guess as others have mentioned its an issue with the properties of the hair - its "affected" by UV light so probably the more it is in contact with it [which lets face it most ponies will be unless they are locked away] the more it breaks down.

I recently found a Megan with the color changing hair, and unlike my childhood one, those stripes *were* in good shape...until I combed the tangles out they immediately became rough and frizzy...*sigh*

I think it's inevitable. I have one Beachball who isn't a frizzy mess and even still has her factory curl, but her hair doesn't seem to change color anymore either...

I don't know if this is typical, but the flat iron fried the hair on the one I tried to fix.  It sizzled, melted, and got worse.  Maybe if you turn the heat way down it would work better, but it didn't help for me :/

Yes thats common - its a much more "meltable" plastic lol! The material it is made from will simply melt it into a clump...not fun and completely impossible to fix.
