Re-Pinking Hair
« on: May 24, 2012, 01:55:58 PM »
Just curious on how you re-pink hair and if it's difficult. My Little Flitter and Rosedust have almost white hair! But I'm afraid of messing the ponies up   Is it very hard to re-pink?

What I do is heat up a small bowl of water for a minute and a half in the microwave, and mix in half a teaspoon of pink rit dye to it (the color is Petal Pink). and then i just dip the pony's hair in it for a few seconds then wash out any of the remaining dye :)

It's quite easy, actually! Just get about 6 - 8 oz glass of warm water and add Rit dye (I use Petal Pink) a few drops at a time until it looks light pink. Then dip the hair in as close to the water as possible (the dye will travel up the hair a little bit so don't worry about the roots too much), swish it around and then take the pony out and rinse a little with cold water. If it's not as pink as you'd like you can continue to drop little amounts into the water until it reaches your ideal colour.
Don't worry too much if the hair looks too bright when it's wet, it should dry just fine. :)
My Mex baby Quackers was repinked but when it dried and looked very natural!

In order for the dye to actually stick to the body it has to be very, very hot. If you're just using hot water from your sink it shouldn't affect the pony at all. ^_^ Just keep the dye away from her body to be safe!

Well, I've used boiling hot water and crimson red watercolor. :D And it has worked pretty well!
