What is Your Art Signature?
« on: May 23, 2012, 08:49:13 PM »
It occurred to me only moment ago, that as I am a new artist on the arena, I should check to make sure that nobody else was using the art signature 'Dell' before I showed up. Rather than just posting a question about it, I thought it would be a lot more interesting to start a discussion about how everyone signs their art, whether it be with a logo, a nickname, characters from another language, etc.

Personally, as previously stated, I sign my digital art 'Dell', one of my previous online handles that I've kept using on my art since 'Nonnavlis' is way to big to write on things like adoptables and avatars.
On my traditional art, I sign with the Japanese Hiragana characters De, Ru, and Pi (でるぴ. It's just nonsense).

How do you sign your art?

I sign it Koudoawaia 2012 and paste a watermark across the art that says (C) Koudoawaia 2012.

On my sketches/traditonal art I sign my real name, the dateand a little star with a paw inside. Years ago I just used to use SPZ
My digital art, I use the paw and star and the year above it and also have a watermark with goes (sorry, can't get the copyright symbol to work)
(C)starrypawz the little star and paw sign and under it it has starrypawz.deviantart.com the watermark goes on my art that goes online

I sigh everything with my real signature somewhere. Sometimes NumiTuziNeru (year) at the top, when I remember.

My traditional art and customs are signed with my real name with a little heart and my digital works are signed RainbowJuice in the corner and my personal watermark is added.
I tend to hide my name in art as well to foil art thieves :p

Wow, seems like I'm off the bandwagon on the traditional front. I think I'm definitely going to start marking the year on my work.

Watermarks is a good idea to. I've been thinking about posting some linearts and things on the forum, but I've heard that art sometimes gets stolen from here. Do those of you who use watermarks find that they help? Or, is it quite easy to eliminate them?

Now that's clever. I've been trying to think of a way to sign things without making it easy to erase. I never thought about trying to hide the letters in the line of the picture.

My favourite was hiding my name in the bark of a tree.
Sometime I write it straight on the focus of the the picture and just lower the opacity.

Mine are all signed Ellis in a loopy handwriting with a - and the year, so this years are all Ellis -12

The sig is just below his front hoof. I always sign somewhere where it won't be easy to remove and I always add a 2-5% noise filter. Its not enough to distort the pic, but if someone tries to remove it, there will be a big obvious hole. I have lots of folks steal my art on DA. It helps to make it so they cant crop it out or erase it.

If you want to make a watermark it's quite easy. I use PS so mine is a custom brush, I guess you can do that in things like Gimp as well.

I typically sign with my real signature, since you can't really read it anyway.  XD  But when I do any kind of pony art, I put a little "ZB" on it somewhere too.

i usually just tend to sign my work with a styalized 'A', typically on the lower left near the sketch or in the basework of the subject. on more serious pieces ill usually tag in the month and year too.
-A. mm/yy etc

On my pottery I have a simplified Fox form I carve into the bottom. For my art I usually just mark it with BJGough '12 or whatever year it is. Never did come up with a better signature for my artwork, but I just draw for fun, not really for show or sell.

I usually write "MoonGazer aka Grace [my last name] 2012" in cursive.

In Digital art, though, I hide my name. I love drawing night time pictures, so I hide my name in the stars! :)
