MLP Master Thesis

hi pony people


i will soon write my master thesis on the university of applied sciences in upper austria. MAYBE my thesis will be about "character evolution in animation".


for presentation of my idea i will need screenshots of every film with each pony generation. G1 is easy, G4 also. but i cant find screenshots of a G2 movie (any scene will do it where a pony is shown.


another question i have is: was there a G3.5 movie/series?


i cant make sure that i will write this thesis - it has to be approved by a teacher.

There were no cartoons in G2. There were commercials with computer animated G2s running around though...

Also yes, there were some 3.5 cartoons - I think they were webisodes though?

Were there books and comics for G2s?  Would those count?

Was MLP Tales not considered G2?

No, MLP Tales is still G1. The generation numbers refer to the toy lines, and the MLP Tales-related toys were G1. The G2 toy line didn't start until after MLP Tales had ended.

No, Pony Tales was G1 even though in was in the early 90s since the ponies were still in the G1 style, and the actual ponies were released in the UK as part of the delayed G1 wave there. 
  There's a G2 computer game with animated G2s running around everywhere. 
Beyond the shift in the character design (following Bratz dolls, the ponies become more slender and curvy with bigger eyes~ more feminine lines)--the dialogue and personality shift is the most dramatic once we get into G4.  Cartoons nowadays are really frank about bodily functions compared to the ones from the 80s, and Pinkie Pie is allowed to snort confetti out of her nose/Celestia cram cake down her throat, where in the 80s, everyone behaved with some degree of decorum. 
  Ooh, I totally hope we get to read this thesis afterwards!  It sounds like fun!  Good luck!

Gosh that sounds like an interesting topic.

I think G2 is the only line you wont manage as there is no cartoon

I should warn you, zora, that Generation 1 had several different art styles.  Just looking at animation, the first TV special and the second TV special looked very different from each other and from the movie that followed, though the TV series after that used pretty much the same style as the movie, only with a lower budget.  Then you've got the early toy commercials and all the different kinds of comic books to look at...

Then some home video releases of the G1 cartoons came out late enough that they put G2 ponies on their box art, just to confuse us some more.

there are also newborn cuties webisodes. those are really horrible, but perhaps worth a mention?
