How do you guys dry sculpey on a pony?
« on: May 15, 2012, 10:20:47 AM »
I've left my Sparkler with ear rebuilds in the sun for a few days while I was away, the ear with less rebuild seems to have dried out. I'm not entirely sure I should put her in an oven. Hairdryer? Radiator?

when i use sculpy brand sculpting clay on my ponies, I bake them in the oven using the directions on the package ( I think its 15 minutes at 275 degrees Fahrenheit)

I always make sure to put aluminum foil between the pony and the pan.
but I have never had an issue with a pony melting. and the oven heat is the only way to get sculpy to cure. I have heard of people boiling the sculpy to get it to set, however I do not know of a set time, and this can cause the finished product to be more fragile

You could try a lower temp for a short bit, keeping an eye on her.

Awesome, it's just a rebuild on ear nibbles so she won't be in there for too long! Pony building is new one on me, I usually use green stuff on fantasy battle models but decided to use some sculpey in nearly the same colour :)

Sculpey usually needs to be baked or boiled to cure.  There is some debate about how effective boiling is.  For such a small mod I'd say a lower temp or less time.  You want it to cure fully.  Now if you left it sit and it seems dry and brittle then baking may make it worse.  I have had this problem when I did sculpting over several days instead of doing a multiple fires.  If possible I'd suggest moistening it a bit or even reworking the ear mod and then fire.  You don't want it to separate from the pony or crack.  I hope this makes sense. lol
I'm not really on here anymore. Email me if you need my for something.
