Help With G1 Identification?
« on: May 14, 2012, 10:54:19 AM »
My Grandmother very kindly bought me a G1 secondhand MLP, and as it happens, she is now my first G1. I tried looking at Strawberry Reef's pony identification guide but couldn't find her anywhere.  :(  Perhaps she's one of the ponies that still doesn't have a photo uploaded there.

Her hair's pretty nasty and I believe she's developing mold. She's got a few marker marks in inconspicuous places (the underside of one hoof and inside of back leg).
Her paint is in lovely condition, though.

And here's her cutiemark and a view of the little bunny basket (which I've honestly never seen on a G1 before. I'm kinda not too knowledgeable in this area.  >_< )

Her symbol is blue and yellow and seems to be a magic wand or something similar. The basket covers it slightly. She's dated 1990.
Any attempts at helping me would be assuredly thanked.  ;)
Also, apologies if this is not in the correct area.   I usually just browse the site and look at the wonderful customs and restorations.

Ooo you got a good find, I think! It's not easy to find those ponies with the little added toy still attached to the end of the string. I think usually they break off. Hee hee a rabbit in a magic hat. XD Cute!

there are only 4 different ponies done in that style, you have Bunny Hop!  careful when cleaning her, that pink hair fades horribly with a little sunlight!

Ooh, I was thinking it must be a bit of a rarity since the toy is only kept on with string. She is quickly becoming part of my precious herd.

Thanks! What an adorable name. :D
Here she is with some more info!

Now I just hope her hair isn't too knotty that it won't smooth out. I don't use flat irons or anything of the sort on pony hair because I'm too afraid of damaging it further. ^^;  Thanks!  ^.^

You can always just give her a nice bath and leave in the conditioner for awhile... brush it out a bit (GENTLY), rinse then wrap her hair around her neck with a paper-towel strip to dry.  Even if it is still a little frizzy, she should still display nicely.  I've seen people tie bows in their hair to tame it down a bit.  Good luck and great find!

Good thinking! I'm usually too much of a perfectionist when it comes to my display ponies' hair.  >_<  I rewashed a G3 Sunny Daze's hair three times until it came up smooth. Luckily she suffered no ill effects and looks fantastic now, but I really wouldn't risk so many rewashes on a G1. Especially since she's apparently such a lucky find.  :)  Thanks a lot.

Thank you! Hopefully she'll look even better after a nice little bath.  ^.^ I don't want the smooze to spread. It seems mostly isolated to the tip of her left ear.

Its probably just ingrained dirt if its in the pores. Most of the time it is.

True, true. Hopefully that's all it is anyway. Does smooze usually have a smell? I don't have a sense of smell myself, but after passing her around my house a bit, we've safely concluded that she doesn't have any sort of musty odour to her.
