Darlin' Dinos?
« on: May 09, 2012, 12:26:02 PM »
Does anyone here collect them?

I would love to formally, but I've seen them get expensive on eBay. I did have these figures from childhood though. Even as a kid I always wondered where they came from.

And I also have this one that I'm cleaning right now. She needed a bit of TLC. I got her from a thrift store for only a nickel and I initially pulled her out of the box because I thought at first that she was a Charmander! I can't figure out what release this would have been though. An ID would be great, if anyone knows anything about them.

I just think they were such a cute idea for a toy, and it's a shame they didn't last any longer than what they did. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that if they were made now, with the whole Monster High thing being so popular and everything, that they probably would have been a little more successful.

Of course, that's more speculation than anything.  The fact that someone made dinosaur dolls at one point just makes me so happy. Not like full-on plastic dinosaurs, but actual dolls. Does anyone else out there like them?

I have a few of them, mostly the smaller variation and the plastic ring dinos. I think they're pretty cute, but I only ever pick them up from car boot/garage sales :P

*Regrets putting them back at the thrift store* >_> Personally I'm not real interested, but I think the bigger one with the gem tummy is pretty cute.

Hmmm I'm looking at Ghost of the Doll and I think she might be the one that came with the doctor outfit? I would think dinosaur toys would have been more popular before because of The Land Before Time (also maybe Denver, the Last Dinosaur and We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story) than they would be now.

WickedWonderland, I was sort of thinking she was the doctor dino too because of the way her arms are positioned, but I wasn't sure if those particular sets would have the jewels on their bellies. It doesn't make sense to me to give them that feature and then cover them up with clothes, plus mine has green hair while the one in the picture looks to have purple.

That's a good point about dinosaurs being more popular back then... that does make quite a bit of sense.

The other "dressy dinos" have gems, so I don't see why she wouldn't. I don't know how complete that site is, so maybe there are more? I hope you can get a proper ID on her.

Ah!!!!!  I had those on my favorite birthday cake one year!  I didn't know what they were called and it's been bugging me the last few years.  Thank you so much for posting something about them.  =]

I have at least 5 of them back home, from my childhood days :) always thought they were quite awesome. I should get my mom to bring them to me when she visits ^^
