« on: May 07, 2012, 09:19:46 PM »
Hehehe I love to color with them now.

I'm not that good though  :art:

From top to bottom, it's Hotwire (baby) and his sister Tractor Pull, Hotwire (full grown), Un Burro, and Stubbs :3

They're all so cute! I love Un Burro with the long ears and big eyes, and the picture of Hotwire & Tractor Pull is so sweet, you can really see that TP cares for her little brother. ^^

Have you tried blending the colours with your fingers or a piece of tissue paper?

I used to colour with coloured pencils a lot when I was in junior high... nowadays I rarely do, it's such a slow method compared to watercolours or markers. And it takes a lot of skill, I've noticed, a skill that I don't have, nor do I have the patience to practice. I still use them in mixed media pieces, though. You're off to a great start! I suggest to work slowly and start light, building up layer by layer. At least I think that's a good method to make the colour even. But as I said, I'm not the right person to really give advice on this medium. ^^'

(Also, I've noticed scanners hate coloured pencils... Augh. They hate watercolours, too.  :hmm: )

Here's a tip with colored pencils. If you color using a circular motion rather than back and forth like kids do with coloring books, you'll get an even color. Also use layers of a color to get darker rather than pressing harder. Last tip. When shading use cross hatching and you'll get a clean and neat effect.

ooh! Cute!!! Colour pencils are my medium  :)  They are a little more time consuming, granted, but I really like the texture of them. I use ones I can wash over with water too, to get a watercolour effect if needed.

I like the effect you've achieved with the little fella with pointy uppy ears (un burro?), it' kinda edgy! Have fun doing more drawings, look forward to seeing them  :)

Thanks for all the tips :D I'll definitely try all those out ^^ I was just messing around with them not really trying to do anything amazing xD but thanks for the tips :3

I found some old watercolors and watercolor pencils in a cupboard I used to store my paints in. I may try them out if I can find my watercolor paper ^^

yeah they look really good =] i work with colored pencils all teh time too. definately time consuming but fun as hell. all very good tips listed above, but id add also that the white pencil is very useful for blending over your final highlights too. kinda smooths and rounds it out if youre careful. keep sketching!

They look good!  Colored pencils can be surprisingly hard to master.  I love Burro, she's so unique!  Does Stubbs have a teeny leg?  XD

Stubbs has an amputated leg xD; I thought it was different, and went with it xD;

Also, attempted to take people's advice :3 and I'm happy with how it came out, not the greatest, but better than I have done ^^ I also used some ideas my old art teacher gave me at one point, 6 or 7 years ago >> Which was to use different colors :3 so this one has like, 15 different colors in it :U

I'm attempting to get people to commission me xD /shameless

But I really need gas money :C my car nearly died coming home last night, and today I spent 12 hours on busses trying to get around Tumwater :U

you can really see your progress. yeah using multiple colors will help give depth and shadeing rather than just pressing harder, if you press harder it gets brighter (more vivid) not darker. im trying to break myself of using the black pencil in most shadows, so experimenting with multiple colors early off will help you down the road. =]
seriously tho, great work hun =]
