I was looking through some toy binbags in the loft and there was this pony that had muck on it that loocked like puke!  eeeew! I picked it up with tweezers and through it in a bin! totally wasn't expecting that!

I have bought a lot off ebay before, and a couple ponies had something like that on them, smells horrid, is sticky, and just makes me feel ill an not wanna touch any of them!!

Thats gross and a health hazzard.  One time I was at the thrift store standing at the bins that have stuffed animals and dolls.  I smelled something horrible and I looked down and noticed I was standing in a huge puddle of diarrhea on the floor.  Then I saw a 2 year old with it coming out of his diaper all over the floor.  These kids rarely have shoes on and they walk with bare feet all over the most filthy floors I have ever seen.  The parents even let them put their mouths on the toys and scoot around on the floor. Its disgusting.  I left the building really fast, took my shoes and socks off in the parking lot on the ground.  This thrift store was one of the best ones because it was in a very poor part of town and people didn't typically buy the stuff there I wanted...so I always found fabulous things. I don't go back anymore.  Do you have any idea how many kids could have gotten sick from that mother allowing her child to poo all over the floor and continue to shop.  How could she miss it?    She was right next to him the whole time.  I have trained myself to look down the entire time I am in thrift stores now.  Nothing could have cleaned that kid up but a garden hose. Seriously...I feel bad for the kid but no person should allow that to happen in a store.
 
Plus I have a friend that buys from the thrift store all the time for years even. She never washes anything. I wash, sanitize and launder everything from a thrift store.  The virus's on that stuff, not to mention bed bugs, lice, carpet beetles and moth eggs are a good reason to never bring a plushie or clothing item home without washing it in hot hot water in the machine.  All other toys I hand wash and then spray with lysol.  What can't be washed goes in a baggie for 2 weeks or in the freezer for a month.  I do not have ocd, but when it comes to health in these places I just do what I would think is smart to avoid problems later. I learned as a teacher that everything that kids touch must be cleaned and cleaned often.

Ughh I hate that! I have a triple treat who got barfed on, and now her leg is permanently stained orange x.x


Worse is she was in a sorted bag! Who would put her in there with other clean toys?!

There's a reason we stopped having spittoons (sp?) in public places in the US...

I don't understand why people let their kids chew on the toys from off of the shelves at thrift shops.... eeeeewwww....
