I don't care if they are docile, they're freaking scary looking!  And they live somewhere in my backyard.

Oh gosh, they're so scary...  :yikes:
When I lived in NY, we had a colony of them living INSIDE the pool deck... Made swimming a nightmare. D:

These guys live in a bush in our front yard and one of our trees in our back yard. Ours are pretty slow so I followed them.

Yeah, we had some of these guys making a home on our front porch.
They female would drill the hole in the wood (they like non-treated wood) and the male would fly around to distract us. They drill a perfect hole I tell ya! I'd find wood shavings all over the steps....these busy beavers would drill a deep hole, lay eggs, pack in some saw dust/shavings, and then repeat the process. This way the eggs are protected.....my hubby took care of this situation and so far, they haven't been back.....   !

I always thought they were fascinating. I kept my distance of course, but they loved to make those dens in our old dead tree.

Bees generally don't bother me much at all as long as they don't land on me. Wasp and hornet sorts however send me screaming for the hills.

I'm not a bee fan!  I do think bees are cute, but at a distance ...

wasps and bees do  not bother me in the least i pick them up at work all the time and feed them. Oh today i found a bee in the window at work and picked it up and gave it some soda. To my surprise the bee deiced i was a comfy spot and settled down till i came to a tree in bloom then it left.

My boyfriend and I came home this morning after my work-out to discover a carpenter bee boring a hole into the wood next to the call box by our building's front door :(  I called maintenance and left a message about it. I really hope they do something about it soon--I'm terrified to walk out the front door now!
