I braved my dark and scary attic
« on: April 13, 2012, 11:42:37 AM »

I went into my attic for the first time since I bought my house - It's been almost 4 years. Well I didn't find any money but there were two black trash bags up there - curious I pulled them down and they were full of plush toys. - All from late 70's early 80's
I don' t know what I'm going to do with them all but they are kind of neat... most will probally end up in the trash though...visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Don't put toys in the trash!
Donate them to your local second hand store/charity, odds are someone will want them. I'm pretty sure those muppet puppets at the very least are sought by some collectors.

Don't throw them out!  The older they are, the more collectible they are!  Either donate them to Goodwill or some other charity, or perhaps sell them online.  From the picture they seem to be in good condition, and there are plenty of people who collect vintage toys.

I wasn't planning on trashing the muppets - Animal alone is worth $60-$100 but I've grown rather fond of him...

I was planing on picking out a few of the choice pieces - Bert & Ernie - the Alf puppet, papa smurf, Alvin and of course the disney and chucking the rest because they are in such ratty shape - plus second hand stores around here won't take plush toys.

I see what appears to be a 70's Dapper Dan in there. Looks like a few of those have sold on ebay. (One recently for $18 and one last year for over $30.)

KERMIT!

Contact your local fire department - they often have programs where they sterilize stuffed toys and give them to children in traumatic situations.  :)  Sometimes it's done through the Scouts, or the Lions Club.

What awesome finds!  I actually just found that same type of Papa Smurf @ the thrift store this week.  :)

I wouldn't throw them out, either.  There isn't any charities in the area that would take them?  Or maybe you could sell them?  They really don't look like they're in bad shape. . .

What type of shape is the Care Bear in?  I might be willing to take it off your hands.  :)

lol you're all Toy Story fans aren't you :D

The Care Bears are handmade one's rather than store ones and one is missing an eye -another has a torn belly and the third needs a new nose. ...

but don't worry about the fate of yon lot - I also posted a picture of it on my facebook and I have three little cousins of mine begging me to give them to them.  So they are going to be cleaned up -repaired and shipped off to another little girls room.
