With the world a much more accessible place - i.e. we can directly buy from Chinese sellers via Taobao, we can all chatter on the Arena about ponies - and collectors spread so far over the globe, the odds are good that with G4 we are so much more likely to get access to "test", "prototype", "flawed/discarded" ponies than ever before.

This has become harder since someone emailed the :muffin: Pony link to Hasbro. The seller who had the new TRU exclusives is no longer selling any ponies. Another seller removed all of the prototypes.

For heaven's sake.  Why do people run to Hasbro with everything?   Next thing you know someone will be asking "HEY HASBRO, IS IT OKAY TO SELL CUSTOMS ON EBAY?"  And then what happens if they say "No"?

Hasbro is like the fiery eyeball of Sauron, you definitely do not want it gazing in your direction.

I was wondering about that... Taobao has seemed really "light" on G4 ponies lately....

I'd bet Hasbro cracked down on these sellers... and possibly we won't see any more "early" releases.... >.<

I've gone into hoarding mode with some of the G4s from TaoBao. Prices will become ridiculous on Ebay.

I understand why they asked since they probably wanted to know if it was real since unfortunately there are people who have nothing better to do than make up fake news, sometimes even going through the trouble of making a custom, just to get famous on the internet. And also China is the land of bootlegs so there is that concern too. Of course they could have just been patient and waited since if it is real they will eventually officially announce it.

Yeah... contacting hasbro about it was not the smartest thing to do.

a. I'm sure hasbro employees are under a non disclosure agreement, so even if it IS real, they're not allowed to say anything. NDAs are SERIOUS business... if one is broken, an employee can get fired or even have legal action taken against them. The only response they could have given legally to the question "is this :muffin: Pony real" is "we have no plans to release this :muffin: Pony" ... until the nda is lifted.

b. by asking this question, now hasbro knows about the taobao stuff, and now they can crack down on it, so yes, no more leaks, no more early stuff.

Ummmm....apologies in advance for the contradictory opinion and I mean no offence....but Chinese sellers dont tend to listen when giant American corporations start laying down the law [even when same corporation is such a large buyer]...Fake Apple shops anyone? And check out some of the other manufacturers whose products are widely available on Taobao...

These big corporations know these places exist - they know these websites are out there...

Yes, maybe some factories may have reigned in on security after perhaps a little ticking off from Hasbro but more leaks will happen in the future again...no doubt...

I would suspect the "lack" of newer ponies on Taobao recently is more down to the increased volume of us pony peeps buying there...its gone from a handful to a lot...you just have to check out ebay to see how many people are buying and selling.

The store I had bookmarked on Taobao still has ponies in stock, but another one doesn't. However, they do still have Hasbro products for sale. Sellers in China know what they're doing and who they are up against so I doubt they would listen to the corporation when asked to remove their products. Since it would most likely be the American branches of Hasbro asking them to do so, rather than any from China, they don't really feel a sense of urgency to remove their items from public sale. I've noticed a HUGE increase in Taobao items being sold on eBay since the whole :muffin: Pony thing, so it seems that since people now know how simple it is to buy from there, they're doing so more often.

I am positive Hasbro knew about Taobao before this
and of course they wouldn't confirm a product that has not been officially released (and is very likely being illegitimately sold.) ...

I just thought it was too coincidental that just after ":muffin: Pony-gate" broke, a bunch of prototype and not-yet released ponies disappeared. There are many ponies still there.  But most if not all have already been released. :(

Hahaha!  Word. Plus IT'S HASBRO.  How many years have pony collectors been disappointed with Hasbro?! It kind of annoys me that people are getting all in a snit that Hasbro isn't making their favorite pony from FiM after old collectors spent years feeling the shaft from Hasbro, and now Hasbro is very Fair-friendly, etc.

I'm sure she's not released YET. I'm sure she's coming.

And absolutely those employees are under a NDA. If they weren't, think about how many ponies and other hot toys could be leaked daily?
